Kayak Fishing the Indian River
Fishing has been exceptionally strong over the past few weeks, with the best action we've seen all year! Early mornings have been particularly productive, with a consistent bite that starts to slow down as the sun rises higher.
Kayak Fishing: IRL from Sebastian
Today I am reporting on kayak fishing in the Indian River Lagoon, launching from the western shoreline in Sebastian.
Snookology 101
As you all should know by now, the conditions and the fishing at the inlet can change very drastically from day to day, as it did this past week/weekend. Last week from Tuesday through Thursday the snook bite on the north jetty on the incoming tide on live shrimp was really good, with quite a lot of fish being hooked, but most were lost due to breakoffs and the ever present and hungry Goliath groupers!
Good Fishing Continues Offshore
What a great week we’ve had once again. Mother nature was nice to us and let us fish every day. Bunker has been fairly steady from the north tip to the Brown condos.
Scattered Bait & Gamefish
Got to fish the beach this week a couple days and found some schools of big Jacks and Bonito along with a couple tarpon. Bait is still scarce and with the north winds last weekend, it will scatter the bait and gamefish for a few days once the winds let up.
Bass Eating Lures & Live Bait
This is a great time of year to catch them on lures or live bait. Fish early and catch them on topwater before it gets hot!! The water temp is 87 degrees when we started yesterday.
Teaching A Boy to Fish…
Last week I changed up my area for fishing and hit the Lagoon with my grandson. Now that school is out we plan on fishing together more often until his summer break is over. He’s doing a different kind of learning by me teaching him all that I can. My grandfather was my mentor when I was his age and now it’s my turn to do the same.
Dry Spell Not Impacting Bite
Central Florida as a whole has had some seriously dry weather this past month to two months making for some very crunchy lawns. The lack of rain has not affected the bite here in New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon.
