Capt Mike Mann has been fishing his whole life from Bass to Tarpon to Bones I love it all but chasing down Fat Red fish tailing in skinny water is my passion. Summer Tarpon off the beach or in the back country rock, so come get your fish on!
Well, this week has been all about the tarpon with over 20 tarpon caught in the last four days. They are here and they are eating.
Tarpon are starting to show up in full force and can be found crashing schools of mullet along the ICW. Trout have been eating pigfish and topwater plugs, especially early in the morning.
Fishing has been very good this past week with an outstanding topwater bite for both reds and trout. Black drum have been feeding on shrimp fished on a jig head and tarpon are starting to make an appearance.
The fishing in the lagoon has been on fire this past week with topwater plugs being the best producers followed closely by Z-Man paddle-tails rigged weedless. Tarpon are starting to show up and we should expect their numbers to increase over the next couple weeks.
Fishing for redfish, trout and snook using topwater has been very good this past week. The MirrOlure Top Pup and She Dog plugs have been the best baits. Offshore, bottom fishing continues to be very good now that the seas have settled down a little bit with mangrove snapper and Lane snapper still being caught in good numbers, as well as a few vermilion snapper.
Fishing has been very challenging this week but we’re still making it happen with decent catches of black drum and mangrove snapper and even redfish on the flats. Offshore the mangrove snapper and lane snapper bite continues to be very good with our best catches coming on small bait fish dropped down on a small circle hook.
With the constantly changing weather this last week, we really had to scramble and do a lot of moving around to stay on the bite, but we were able to do it. We caught lots of black drum, mangrove snapper, snook, pompano, jack crevalle and are starting to see some tarpon showing up.
Fishing has been very good coming off the full moon with the cold weather we’re expecting over the next week or two look for more winter like patterns with schools of redfish and black drum on the deep drop-offs. Snook have been chewing readily on live shrimp on a jig as well as soft plastics with the cool weather we may get a good push of manta rays with Cobia coming down the beach.
Offshore fishing has been very good for the last week or so with great catches of lane snapper, mangrove snapper, red snapper and a few nice vermilion mixed in. Cobia are starting to show up following rays and bait fish are starting to make their way up. The beach tarpon should not be far behind.
Offshore was a big deal last week with good catches of cobia, lane snapper and red snapper. Inshore, the trout bite and black drum bite was very good with a few reds sporadically being caught as well. Look for cobia to start to follow the rays in the next few weeks.
