Dirty Surf Monday
Water clarity on the beach was really dirty today around the Pineda area from around 8a- to at least 1pm while there. Luckily there wasn't any major seaweed patches so I still caught a few margate. Winds were light from the south. Still fishable.
Once in a Lifetime Trophy
What a week we just had! Truthfully, the bite wasn’t very exciting, especially in the river. Both backwater and open water areas showed little signs of life and even less actual activity.
Sebastian Inlet Report
Last week when I was down and talked to the regulars it was pretty slow, including this past weekend. The water temp has cooled down again along the coast, 76 now and for this time of the year it is supposed to be in the 80's and clean, but it's not near what we need.
Cocoa Beach Surf Fishing
Surf fishing anglers along the central east coast are enjoying great fishing in May. Making for a pleasant surprise because the major concentrations of anticipated seaweed are having little effect.
Headwaters & Lagoon
I fished Headwaters on Monday last week and also Friday on the Lagoon. The lure of choice again was a suspending jerkbait but what surprised me was the bright bluebird skies around the one o'clock time frame when the topwater bite turned on.
Tarpon Showing Up
Fishing has been very good this past week with an outstanding topwater bite for both reds and trout. Black drum have been feeding on shrimp fished on a jig head and tarpon are starting to make an appearance.
Inshore & Offshore
It's late spring and the tarpon have shown up in force in our local rivers and lagoons. They are about three weeks early this year compared to our normal migration of these fish that show up each year.
Bait Thinning, But Still Here
The inshore bite has still been pretty good. Bait is thinning out in some areas, but the predator fish are still in the areas we are able to find it. Big and small snook, redfish and trout are are along the mangroves as well as plenty of jacks and some ladyfish.
Off the Charts Shiner Bite
The artificial bite has been really good and the shiner bite has been off the charts for big fish. Artificial baits of choice for me this week were the Mike Bucca 7” Bullshad bone, 9” BullGlide bone, 6” Bullgill bone, Bass Assassin RSB worms Gooseberry, and the Jackhammer half ounce Bret’s Bluegill with a Hogfarmer Greenpumpkin Magic trailer.
Early Summer Time Pattern
We have definitely entered our early summer time pattern here in the backwaters of the Mosquito Lagoon. Look for the bait to be plentiful throughout the flats and the fish not too far.
Still Tough Getting Offshore
Basically a repeat of the last month or two. We went out 2 days this week. The wind has just been so bad making it unsafe. It's not worth it. We all hope to just have a few more weeks till we get some summer calm days.
