Surf Fishing Hot Spots This Week
Cape Canaveral and the northern beaches of Cocoa Beach have been teeming with the highest quality fish I've seen in the past week. It's been quite remarkable, especially when compared to the catches from Melbourne and Sebastian beaches.
“S” Canal Free of Blockage
Finally the home improvement job was finished on our house so I had some free time to get out this past Friday. We headed to Headwaters and put the boat in. The “S” canal was free of any blockage.
Inshore Bite Remains Slow
Inshore, the bite for trout snook and redfish is still a bit slow as the water temps and clarity and wind aren’t helping us much at all. Pompano bite inshore has also slowed but there are a few bluefish and jacks around along with snapper on the rockpiles.
Big Schools of Drum
Big schools of black drum were what was on the menu for this past week of fishing with light wind and clear water. The black drum are feeding heavily and just about anything.
Unforgiving Conditions @ Inlet
This report is going to be another abbreviated one, thanks in part to the weekend's incessant, nasty weather which made conditions at the inlet very unforgiving.
Venice Tuna Trip
FSFA members Jasin Youmans, Dean Pashos, Mark Galloway and Chris Pashos set up this Venice tuna trip 8 months ago with Voodoo fishing charters.

Influx of Water into Lagoon Backwaters
There has been some shifting winds this past week bringing an influx of water into the back waters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. As the wind and higher water does make it a little more challenging to fish in the fish are still there and they are still hungry.
Headwaters Lake Revisited
So here’s the thing about Headwaters Lake - the fishing is great, I’ve never had a “bad” day there - even a bad Headwaters day is still pretty good. It’s a lot like Pizza, and sex - even when it’s bad, it’s still good (lol).
Wind Protected Areas
Fishing has been on the slow side with the less than ideal weather we've been having, but I was still able to get out there and land a few nice ones! The ticket on these colder days has been to fish shallow water (under 3') in wind protected areas.
The Mysterious Blue Monsters
Kicking off with the classic, 'It's called fishing, not catching,' right? This past week was a tad on the slower side but didn’t skimp on the excitement with some monstrous bluefish giving anglers a run for their money.
Tripletail are still hanging around!
Tripletail are funny fish, they love to float on the surface sunning themselves or acting like a piece of floating debris to hopefully entice a small baitfish, crab, or shrimp to come seek shelter beneath it. Once the unwary bait comes within range the Tripletail ambushes them.
