Strong Snook Bite
Our snook bite has been strong again this past week along the Space Coast. We’re getting good numbers of slot and over-slot fish. The best live baits are big shrimp, croakers and menhaden fished near residential docks, spoil islands, and mangrove covered shorelines.
3 Days on Lake Garcia
I spent three days on Garcia last week. I really enjoy fishing this lake due to the vast vegetation of Bullrush, Lilly Pads and Hydrilla but through the years it isn’t the gem that it once used to be.
Volusia Surf Fishing
Here in Volusia County we are still dealing with light weeds and dirty water. Prime time has been early morning until 10am or so and in the afternoon from around 4pm to dark. With whiting, pompano and catfish being the hot bite. Fresh shrimp and live sand fleas being the bait of choice along with electric chicken crab fish bites.
A Few Good Days Offshore
It was a good week. Unfortunately, it was a quick, good weather week, so only a few days offshore. The end is in sight, though. Wind forecast seems to let off.
Decent Week Inshore
Had a decent week fishing inshore. Trout, slot sized Redfish(even though we can't keep them), over and undersized Snook and Jacks were all on the menu!
Fort Pierce Inlet
Day three with Richard & Corey was spent in the Fort Pierce inlet. While the guys really dislike using actual bait they succumbed to the realization that live pilchards/threadfin herring were the way to go and they filled the livewell with frisky critters from Dave’s Live Bait.
Tarpon Showing Up in the ICW
Tarpon are starting to show up in full force and can be found crashing schools of mullet along the ICW. Trout have been eating pigfish and topwater plugs, especially early in the morning.
Tough Artificial Bite
The artificial bite has been pretty tough this week. Most of my artificial trips have been big swimbait trips. The baits we caught fish on this week were the Mike Bucca Bullshad in 7” Bone, 9” BullGlide, 6” BullGill Bone, Hogfarmer A Rig with Bass Assassin Die Dapper swimbaits, and 6” Citizen swimbaits.
Another Dirty Surf Morning
I arrived around 7:30am at the Pineda area to fish off the beach. The surf was absolutely dirty with sea weed and unfishable. Maybe during low tide in a few hours it'll clean up. But the next few hours, unfishable.
FWC proposes changes for snook management
At its May meeting, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) proposed new management regions and regulation changes for snook. The proposed new regions would allow the FWC to better capture local differences in the fishery.

Snook: My Gateway Drug to Kayak Fishing Addiction
Flashback. It is January of 2017, I was in the process of leaving my position as Assistant Football Coach at LaGrange College in Georgia where I was a very poorly paid, small college position coach
