A Tale of Two Jungles: Part II – Shingle Creek
Today I'm finishing what I started last week: A Tale of Two Jungles. If you missed Part I — my urban bass adventure on Lake Ivanhoe — you can check it out here.
Not Much Change from Last Week
Except for the rain, not much has changed since last week. The goal is to find live bait before running offshore so we start looking inside the Port and if it's not there, we make our way out to the beach.
Daytime Bite Slowing Down
The summer heat has slowed the bite down this past week. We did manage to get some willing bass to eat at the Stick Marsh in the first two hours of our morning but it slowed to a halt for the later part of the morning.
All About the Tarpon
This week has been all about tarpon fishing with light winds, warm waters, and lots of bait along the beach with and in the river. Tarpon have shown up in large numbers
Getting the Rain We Needed
The New Smyrna Beach and mosquito Lagoon area has been in much need of some rain and it seems that it has arrived. With the recent rains it has really triggered a solid trout bite this past week with double digit days.
Headwaters Bass Report
The water temp was 86 degrees when we started this morning. The artificial bite is pretty good early in the morning and the live bait bite is really good for me right now.
Fellmere is Hot
Lots of bass eating. Bluegill beds are now hot spots
Sumetime Fishing
That summer heat is starting to show up, and the fish are definitely feeling it! The baby sharks are loving it though, they've been everywhere, eating anything they can find.
Introducing the Conservation Quarterly
Capt. Alex Gorichky introduces his new quarterly conservation series that aims to share what life on and around the lagoon has truly meant to him—what it's given, what's been lost, and what can still be saved.
A Tale of Two Jungles: Part I – The Urban Jungle
I am calling it A Tale of Two Jungles because I spent 4ish hours in the heart of the urban jungle, downtown Orlando, fishing a beautiful urban lake, Lake Ivanhoe. After getting off the water, taking a lunch/hydration break, I spent another 4 hours fishing Shingle Creek in Kissimmee. I will get into all of the Shingle Creek next week, when I cover Part 2.
Shad Activity Settled Down
I'm writing this report as I idle to my next spot on the lagoon this morning. I needed some salt on my face for a change. Nothing happening for bites so far...
Shot but Productive Window Inshort
Inshore fishing is still really good, however the window to catch is short. Pre dawn bite is best and bite slows to a crawl once the sun comes up and the heat gets firing.
