Surf
Hit the beach up this afternoon, one small pomp, black drum and a permit all on fishbite with a dead shrimp on the end. Weeds were manageable, not a lot of bait fish activities.
Kayak Fishing Report: Changing Weather/Changing Tactics
So this past week saw a cold front push through, and then strong north winds in the days that followed. I was able to go out and fish Saturday morning, I was going to return to Long Point to do a spot report there, but I ended up changing plans and fishing the Banana River in the Thousand Islands off of Cocoa Beach due to time constraints, and the need to make a Lowe's run after fishing for a home project we were working on this past weekend.
Take Your Surf Fishing Game to the Next Level!
The seasons are changing and the action in the surf is hitting full speed. Now is the time to dial in your skills to take your surf fishing game to next level -- and Cocoa Beach Surf Fishing Charters is offering an incredible opportunity to do just that.
Don’t Call it Hyperbole
After being a full time charter captain for the past 25 years, I don’t usually like to throw the words “epic” or “incredible” around when talking about the fishing each week. This past week's snook bite at our area inlets has been just that- nothing short of spectacular!
Good Bite On Beach, Inlet & Inshore
Winds were down and we were able to hit the beach a few days and ran into some tarpon, Mackerel, bonito and sharks. The bite was hot on both artificial and live bait for most species. We even ran into a few schools of Bluefish that went 10lbs on topwater plugs which were a blast.
Finally Back on the Water!
It’s been a long 2 1/2 months of knee pain that kept me from doing pretty much nothing. It’s been just over a week after surgery to the meniscus tears on my left knee and I have been pain free since. I was finally able to pull my boat down to Garcia last week and take a look around.
Mullet Everywhere in Fort Pierce
Mullet, mullet (almost) everywhere both north and south of town! If you’ll look closely you’ll see black mullet already round bodied with roe beginning to group-up. You should also notice lots of large schools of silver mullet in the six to eight inch range from the deeper flats to the shorelines. Finally, there are still a fair number of fingerling silvers holding close to structures like docks and mangroves.
Best Surf Fishing in Months!
The best surf fishing we have seen on the east coast in months. It’s an all out red hot fishery with fish biting on each and every cast. Currently we’re catching anywhere from 30-50 fish a trip in four hours.
High Water levels and Cooler Temps…
With the remaining high-water levels, off-colored water, winds, and latest cool down this past week’s inshore trips were some what of a challenge. Although slowly receding, water levels throughout our lagoons are still at a higher-than-normal level. All the runoff from the recent storm and winds from this latest cool front have the water fairly churned up which presented some difficulty for sight fishing on the flats and mangrove shorelines.
Higher, Clean Water In Mosquito Lagoon
Fishing has been very good this week with the higher clean water. Redfish, snook, trout and flounder have been eating Zman paddle tails on an 1/8 ounce jig head working the edges of shorelines.
Surf Fishing Heating Up
The surf has started to clean up from the storm and the cold fronts are starting to move through the area cooling off the water temperature and getting the fall pompano migration started. Good numbers have been coming in around the state with big numbers in the Jacksonville area right now. The hot bait has been crab knuckles, live sand fleas and fresh clams. Fish bites white and yellow crab, coquina clam and sand flea flavor has also been producing.
Stick Marsh & Headwaters Fishing Well
Stick Marsh and Headwaters are fishing really well right now. The strong north winds limited where we could fish the past couple days so a few of my spots we had to abandon some great fish.
