Ready for Incredible Sight Fishing
This is the weather we’ve been waiting for. The next seven days will have the water in the lagoon system crystal clear, making sight fishing incredible. Early mornings are the time to look for schools of redfish, black drum, trout and snook cruising the deeper eastward facing edges.
Fish Biting on Artificials Inshore
Good time inshore fishing on artifical. Before the cold front, the warm weather had the bite pretty good. Plenty of snook and Trout with a bunch of jacks and a some pompano, redfish and flounder mixed in. DOA Cals have been working well on VMC 1/8 ounce jighwads around the mangroves and spoil islands.
Winter Fishing Season in Full Swing
Winter fishing season is in full swing here in Central Florida. Along our beaches we are seeing more schools of fish moving into the cooler waters. Pompano, whiting, drum, bluefish and Spanish mackerel to name a few.
Fishing Remains Tough Offshore
Here we are a week till Christmas. We are lucky with the west winds now that will allow for some nearshore shark fishing and maybe a red drum or two. Offshore isn't really working out too well these days.
Boating Some Nice Slams
The bite continues to be strong throughout the Central Florida waters and Mosquito Lagoon. We have been boating some nice slams quite often over the past week, and with a couple of cold fronts coming in the near future the bite will continue to get better. The water levels are still a little higher than normal throughout the area but the clarity is looking good.
Sebastian Inlet Chicken Nuggets
As most everyone knows the north jetty at Sebastian Inlet has been shut down since hurricane Nicole. This makes it way more relaxing to fish for the boat fishermen but sucks for the land anglers. It's been a little rough with some high winds and big waves this week but [...]
Big Females Feeding at Headwaters
It has been an unseasonably warm December so far, but the big females have been feeding well. Gizzard shad and threadfin shad have been primary forage.
Tough Fishing but A Rewarding Variety in the Surf
Brevard county surf fishing persisted with challenging conditions over the prior week. Large swells and heavy rip currents made it tough to present and maintain surf rigs on local area beaches. This combined with debris from the hurricane made it quite the task to effectively fish the surf.
Where’s Our Winter…?
Although Florida is well known as a state where we are fortunate enough to be able to fish most of the year, our inland water ways do depend on cooler water temps at some point to complete the cycle. Most of the Indian and Banana Rivers are still fairly bad as far as dirty water either from ongoing algae blooms or from all the runoff occurring during our two recent hurricanes.
New Species to Target
Cooler weather means that we now have a few new species to target in the canals and flats along the Space Coast. Black drum and sheepshead have started to show up in much better numbers this week. We’ve mainly been targeting them with live shrimp, but if you can find fiddler crabs, these will be great baits too.
A Special Day
I fished three days on the lagoon this past week. Considering we had this high pressure and a full moon on top of us, I felt the bass bite would have been slow, so at least with saltwater fish there was a better chance to bend the rod.
Awesome Bite on Stick Marsh
The bite on Stick Marsh was awesome this week. We caught them on Carolina Rigs with a 3/4oz weight and a Bass Assassin RSB worm in Gooseberry and Junebug Red. The hottest Bullshad baits on Stick Marsh was the 9” Bull Glide in Bone and the Prototype bait the Chop Shad.
