Special Offer for Spacefish Readers
Captain Justin and I have had the snook fired up on some days. The bite is happening on some of the near-coastal areas outside of Port Canaveral. Live pogies are still the number one bait to use for these slot and over-slot fish that are ranging in size from about 27 to 37-inches.
Water Cooling, Bait Still Around
Not a whole lot has changed fishing wise at the inlet due to the water silting up a bit, and the water temps cooling back down again to around 81 degrees from the 85-86 it was last week.
Crushing it with Ocean Obsession
The Ocean Obsession out of Sunrise Marina at Port Canaveral has put on a clinic this past week. They had full pulls for Red Snapper weekend but have consistently had their customers on all kinds of hard fishing, good eating fish.
Getting Out Early Is Key
As these afternoon thunderstorms continue to flare up from New Smyrna Beach south through Mosquito Lagoon getting out early has been the trick. The bite has definitely been an earlier bite and tapering off by mid day. The bait continues to be holding in great numbers throughout the New Smyrna Beach waters.
Sweating it Out on Freshwater and Salt
I sweated it out for 3 days of fishing last week. Monday I spent a few hours at Headwaters. Water temperatures are creeping into the 90 degree mark by noon time with the heat index in the triple digits.
Inconsistent Bait Patterns on Beach
Had another week of inconsistent bait patterns on the beach but we worked hard and got some good fish. Tarpon, Jacks, Bonito, Mackerel and Snapper.
Thank Mother Nature!
Mother Nature was good to us this week here in Port Canaveral. Light winds all week and good currents. Storms stayed at bay till the 3pm mark making 3/4 day fishing trips perfect.
Big Offshore Bite!
This past week the big news has been the offshore bite as well as the nearshore tarpon bite. Offshore snapper, grouper and triggerfish have been eating very well in the 200 foot depths. Along the beach the tarpon bite has been very good using croakers.
Salmon Fishing In Alaska
Salmon fishing in Alaska holds the reputation for world class catches! This year has not disappointed with an amazing run of both King Salmon and Silver Salmon. Furthermore the catches continue come in huge numbers and big fish.
Strong Bite in Mosquito Lagoon
The bite continues to be strong throughout the New Smyrna Beach back waters and Mosquito Lagoon. We have been boating several different species from snook , black drum, trout and redfish just to mention a few.
Kayak Fishing: Fisherman’s Landing – Grant, FL
oday I am going to talk about a spot in the Grant-Valkaria area that is a truly fantastic place to launch a kayak or paddleboard and go inshore fishing. The park is called "Fisherman's Landing" and with a name like that, I would have been severely disappointed if the fishing would not have been on point, but two trips in the last month resulted in inshore slams being caught both times, so no complaints from me!
Surprisingly Good Snook & Red Fishing
The snook and redfish are surprisingly good along the near coastal waters right now. We are catching between 5 to 10 fish of each species on many of our trips over the last few days.
