Memorial Day Scorcher
This past week along with Memorial Day Weekend was a scorcher with highs in the mid 90s. The temperatures were not the only hot thing in the New Smyrna Beach area though, as the bite on Mosquito Lagoon was just as hot.
Lackluster Fishing, Snook Season Closed
Fishing the inlet over the weekend was lackluster. Maybe the fish decided to also go on vacation and enjoy some time off. There were plenty of folks fishing, but not many around.
The Big Snook Are Still Biting
I've been finding success in the early hours, with snook activity on the flats peaking around sunrise. As the Florida sun climbs, these sought-after game fish retreat to the cooler waters and shade provided by the mangroves.
Kayak Fishing – Wabasso Causeway/Marsh Island
So today I am going to talk about my last two trips; they were both quicker, shorter outings, so I am going to combine them into one report. I launched from the north side of the Wabasso Causeway - Boat Ramp this is the boat ramp on the south side of the causeway, I parked on the northside and launched my kayak from the beach access.
Inshore Bite Slowed but Weather Cooperated Offshore
The inshore bite slowed a little last week with some north and NE winds but we also finally had a good week or weather to get offshore. Starting to find some greenies nearshore and found a few sharks, big jacks and tarpon.
Guiding in Islamorada
It’s been a few weeks since my last Spacefish Report. I’ve been guiding down in Islamorada for most of the month of May.
Summertime and the Fishin’s Easy
Summertime is here and all sorts of species are coming through now. From sailfish to mahi to king mackerel, it’s been great fishing and we've enjoyed some beautiful weather.
Stick Marsh Schooling Action
My wife and I headed for the Stick Marsh hoping to come across some schooling action. With a high pressure and a full moon I wasn’t expecting much but you can only hope to catch a few.
Fish Madness
This past week was fantastic for most, with various good species showing up in the super clean beach waters! Snook, pompano, big whiting, black drum, palometas, and bluefish were all biting.
End of Snook Season
Recreational snook season will end for the duration of summer on June 1. The season will open back up September 1.
Trout Bite on Fire
The trout bite has been on fire this week using pigfish and croakers. The redfish have been eating pigfish and croakers too as well as chunk mullett.
