Surf Fishing Florida in January!
January delivered big catches after a hit and miss December that had many wondering if the fishing, conditions and weather would ever align. The previous weeks we’ve been blessed along the Space Coast with ideal surf fishing conditions, cooperating fish and pleasant weather.
Near Coastal Waters Producing!
It was another great week of fishing for us here at Fineline Fishing Charters. The near-coastal waters came alive with fish this week, including bluefish, black drum, pompano, sheepshead, and tripletail. Live shrimp rigged on a jig head was the simple setup we were using for all of these species.
Fishing Made Fun Again
What a nice week we had here at Fired Up Fishing Charters. Very happy customers and cooperative fish. We had kings and cobia with an excellent mixed bag of bottom dwellers. All types of species from beeliners to triggers. Scattered Cobia and Amberjacks. We also got lucky with some beautiful days! Cleaner water and less winds. When the factors line up, you're gold.
Solid Artificial Bite
The artificial bite is really solid right now. Most of our big fish have been caught on Bass Assassin Vapor Shad’s in Panhandle Moon and Watermelon Red. Another bait we have had great success on is the Hybrid Hunter in Shad color. You can fish these in grass and around pads with great success. Andrew Mixon boneshakers with gold blades and the BA Panhandle Moon Vapor for a trailer are deadly.
Inlet Bite Remains Hit or Miss
The inshore bite has been a little slow this week for snook, reds and trout but the opportunities for sight fishing has been good, as it typically is this time of year. Clear water makes the Snook and redfish easy to spot while they are laid up on the shorelines and along the mangroves.
Tough Fishing But Getting Better
Fishing has been tough this week but turning around with the cooler temperatures. The trout bite has been really good throwing Clowser‘s on fly and Z-Man paddle tails on spin. Black drum are still around and should be easier to find with the cooler temperatures and will readily eat a live shrimp or partial shrimp on a jig head.
Crushing it in the Surf
Captain Matt with Momma b Beach Fishing guide services has been crushing the fish recently! Pompano, whiting, black and red drum are out in full force. Flounder have made a nice showing as well -- live finger mullet or mud minnows on knocker rigs have been the best rig to get a bite. The bite should continue to be great through next month.
Hit or Miss Bite in the Surf
This week has been hit and miss in the surf, but the main bite in the surf has been some nice whiting and tons of bluefish, with a few pompano getting caught in the area. The main body of the pompano have made their way to South Florida. For me, the hot bite has been on fresh shrimp, however Fish Bites and fish gum have been producing also. The Fish Bites clam and sand flea flavor along with the ghost crab fish gum have been working well. But, you will need to make the longer cast to get on the better fish. The first part of the incoming tide has been producing better for me this week.
Kayaking is South Mosquito Lagoon
I went out yesterday to try out a new spot in the kayak and I might have bit off more than I was ready for. I ended up going over 10 miles and spending almost 7 hours on the water with not much to show for it. I think I [...]
Crappie Fishing
The past week has been some pretty awesome fishing! With all the cold and water levels dropping quickly I’ve actually switched up a lot of my usual style and did some crappie fishing! Freshwater fishing for speckled perch (crappie), depending on where you're from, is a great winter time bite. Other species such as sunshine bass, bluegill, and bream make for a lot of fun.
Port Canaveral Offshore Forecast: Jan 2023
I for one am happy to see 2022 behind us. The last 3 months was brutal with very few good fishing days. New year new start and we are off to a really good start.
Good Fishing Near and Inshore
Nearshore fishing was on fire last week with plenty of spinner sharks, pompano, bluefish and jacks with a few tarpon mixed in as well. Topwater sharks are a ton of fun and they are starting to show up in good numbers. Inshore had plenty of trout a few snooka nd some balck drum on the menu. The inlet bite was hit or miss with the action either on fire or dead.
