Kayak Fishing Report: Grab and Go Quick Trips
Happy Sunday SpaceFish, This past week, I have been busy, it’s just been one of those weeks where work, family, etc all just converge to make getting time on the water tough. If you’re like me sometimes it feels like you need time on the water to breathe, and [...]
Clearer Water at Headwaters
Only one day on the water last week for me. This time I spent the day at Headwaters. With not spending much time at this wonderful body of water it surprises me just how clear the water is compared to its big sisters next door Stick Marsh waters are very dark, Garcia is dark as well but cleaner waters.
Healthy Mix on the OO
The Ocean Obsession (OO) out of Sunrise Marina at Port Canaveral was able to put their customers on some hard fighting, great tasting fish! Capt. Kyle didn't disappoint with a healthy mix of lane, mangrove and mutton snapper as well as a really nice cobia. Make sure you book your spot on the next trip!
Strong Bite in Mosquito Lagoon
The bite continues to be strong throughout the waters of the Mosquito Lagoon. The weather has been great this past week triggering a chewing mood for our fish. Look for this activity to continue as the extended forecast shows a high pressure sitting over the state into next week.
Challenging Fishing
Fishing has been very challenging this week but we’re still making it happen with decent catches of black drum and mangrove snapper and even redfish on the flats. Offshore the mangrove snapper and lane snapper bite continues to be very good with our best catches coming on small bait fish dropped down on a small circle hook.
Port Canaveral March Report
Almost to April is probably the best thing about March but that being said March does have the allure of possibly giving to us early all the great things we love about April.
Snook Fishing Heating Up!
Space Coast snook fishing continues to heat up! Even with the brief cool fronts, the snook bite continues to get better and better. From beating the bushes to drifting the inlet, the fishing has been pretty good! On the warmer more sunny days, anglers can find lots of laid up snook along mangrove shorelines with around 2/3 feet of water, look for these fish floating mid day especially on the days where there is little to no wind or along the Lee ward shorelines.
Off Week in Fort Pierce
Fishing for me and mine was way off this week compared to last week’s fun. Lots of wind accompanying a late season mini-front likely put the fish down for the guys on Thursday. I really dislike fishing the day after a cold-front, even a weak one like this and the howling wind made it tougher than usual.
Pretty Good Tripletail Bite
We've had some unsettled weather over the past few days, but the tripletail bite has still been pretty good when we have had a chance to get out and look for them. Live shrimp rigged on an Assassin jig head, or free lined to these fish are the best way to target them. As we progress into the spring and summer months these fish will show up around floating debris more and more.
Working Hard but Finding Good Fish
Looks like the cold fronts are going to continue into late March and April since we had such a hot February. North winds and colder temps make the beach fishing tough as well as inshore but if we work hard, there’s some good fish to be caught. Big Black drum have been in the inlet and along the flats and bridges around Grant and Sebastian.
Florida Turkey Time
Springtime in Florida is not only a great time for Anglers around the state. Second only to my passion of fishing is my love for the Florida “Spring Gobbler” Turkey season. Central and South Florida are unique in that these are the only areas to hunt the sub species of Wild Turkey known as the Osceola.
Stick & Moving to Stay on the Bite
With the constantly changing weather this last week, we really had to scramble and do a lot of moving around to stay on the bite, but we were able to do it. We caught lots of black drum, mangrove snapper, snook, pompano, jack crevalle and are starting to see some tarpon showing up.
