Improved Fishing in Near-Coastal Waters
This week has been a much better week than last week for fishing along the near coastal waters. The winds switched around and started coming out of the north and north west allowing us to get out on the beach and fish the mullet run once again.
Reporting from Fort Pierce
Hit the water with Ric on Friday. My goal was to fish an area I haven't been in a month or so and see if the mullet run was strong here. It wasn't strong on the east shoreline, but the west side of the river had decent concentrations of silvers in fingerling through adult sizes.
Lackluster Mullet Run @ Inlet
Good morning all my Sebastian Inlet fishing friends, hope everyone had a nice relaxing weekend! It's that time again to let loose with the what's happening, or what's not happening at the inlet.
Mangrove Madness On the OO
Just as predicted, the Ocean Obsession (OO) didn't disappoint on their last run offshore. It was mangrove madness for their customers on this trip. Plenty of great tasting and hard fighting mangrove snapper came over the rail and into the pail.
Bite Improved with Cooler Temps
Despite the heavy rains and the freshwater in the lagoon, bite has improved quite a bit due to the amount of bait and cooler water temps.
Transitioning Time of Year
Starting this week will be the beginning of our transitioning time of year. Our first cold front passed through over the weekend and brought us temperatures into the 60’s. Water temperatures on the lagoon were at 79 for me and I'm sure our area lakes are close to that as well.
Mosquito Lagoon Sight Casting
Well, if you're longing for the old days of sight casting in the Mosquito Lagoon, you're in luck. The water is clear and the fish have been feeding. Redfish are being caught throwing Z-Man paddle tails or diesel minnows.
Gag Grouper Season to end October 23

Thrown A Curve Ball by the Weather
This week on the Space Coast the weather is throwing us a bit of a curve ball. Luckily, the inshore fishing has been red hot! October is notorious for being a great redfish month and while this holds true, anglers can find a great redfish bite across the entire region.
Strange Weather
We have had some strange weather for the past week making it difficult to fish with wind, rain and high water but it has not stopped us from catching.
Father-Son Fishing: Melbourne
So we have found us a great spot for inshore fishing from land, Kiwanis Park at Geiger Point located at the base of the Melbourne Causeway (192) right there in downtown Melbourne. This is a good spot for several reasons.
Plentiful Bait Around Jetties and Inlet
Well, to start off, Sunday was a total blown out rainy mess! The winds were blowing 20-30 NNE, the swells were 6-7ft, and the inlet was just one huge washing machine. The bad thing about it is the entire week is supposed to be much the same. The good thing about it is that this weather will bring down some more mullet along the coast, and the water temps should drop back down again to get things fired up.
