Hoping the Mullet Run Stays Strong
Through the early and mid week, the bite on the beach was pretty good with Tarpon feeding on mullet schools, up until the swells picked up. Later in the week, the bite slowed a bit with some north wind and heavy seas.
Topwater Producing on Stick Marsh
The topwater bite has been really good for us this week. Spook style baits (Shad color or light color bellies) fished over and around hydrilla has produced some good fish. We also stuck a few early in the morning on black walking frogs.
Fish Loving Higher Waters
The water is on the rise and the fish are loving it! The last few weeks, the water in the lagoon has come up a tremendous amount -- several feet in most areas. With all the added water, combined with large influences of mullet, fishing mangrove shorelines has been very productive.
Nice Variety Offshore
"Variety" is the word of the week. Captain Joey did a fine job once again catching a variety of species out of Port Canaveral. Cobia, Kings, Mahi, Blackfins, Sharks and Cudas. Even got to see some impressive weather. Looks like the trick right now is to be back at the dock by 2pm. Storms are no joke lately. They have been very consistent the last few weeks.
Change Is In The Air… and Water
Florida is not usually a state that comes to mind when one thinks of annual seasonal changes. Although we do not have the breathtaking Fall foliage or cooler weather, typically around this time, as our neighbors to the north, we do have changes in our patterns and tactics for inshore fishing.
Kayak Fishing Report: Honest John’s Fish Camp – Old Florida Experience
Saturday morning I got up early and spent the day fishing one of my absolute favorite places to launch out of and fish. Honest John’s Fish Camp located on Mullet Creek on the Indian River Lagoon, a few miles north of Sebastian Inlet, and just southwest of Indian River Preserve State Park
Mullet Schools Showing Up!
The weather man was a bit off late last week and over the weekend. Hit some inshore spots late in the week due to forecast but the winds stayed down and the seas remained calm. The snook and trout bite was decent when we found the bait schools. Also found some full grown tarpon inshore as well, but didn’t focus on catching them because my customers were looking for dinner.
Mullet Run in Full Effect
The mullet run is in full effect up and down Florida's East Coast. Snook, redfish and tarpon are readily eating finger mullet on a 3/0 or 4/0 circle hook.
Good Bite Coming Off Full Moon
The bite has been pretty good throughout the Mosquito Lagoon waters. We are coming off the back side of the full moon along with a lot of rain this past week, which has created higher then usual water conditions. The higher water has pushed the redfish and trout up into the shallows of the Lagoon for a chance at new food source.
Big Change in Weather
It’s been a big change the last week here on the Space Coast weather wise. The bite in the surf continues to get better and better -- tarpon, snook, jacks -- and the mullet run is in full swing. However, the inshore bite has really picked up, too. With all the added water, shorelines that have been very shallow now have a good bit of water and have been holding good numbers of redfish, snook, trout and juvenile tarpon.
Tampa Bay redfish action
The redfish schools are now in session. Schools of reds are traveling the shallow flats and bars. Pitching live shrimp or cut threadfins or pinfish is a great choice while fishing for them.
Can you change with the times?
The last few years has definitely showed a shift in traditional fishing patterns for our area, but this year has been the most extreme for sure.
