Decent Fishing Offshore & In
Offshore was a big deal last week with good catches of cobia, lane snapper and red snapper. Inshore, the trout bite and black drum bite was very good with a few reds sporadically being caught as well. Look for cobia to start to follow the rays in the next few weeks.
North Georgia Fly Fishing
ebruary usually brings the slowest trout fishing of the year. This year hasn’t been much different but there are a few areas still fishing well throughout North Georgia. The wet weather we received in late January caused the wild fish in small streams to stray from their winter refuges. Stocked fish in smaller water are much more willing to eat if you can find them.
Action Packed Fishing
Fishing has been action packed on the Space Coast of Florida. We have been catching limits of flounder which is such a fun fish to target and an even better fish to eat. Live baiting with finger mullet and mud minnows have been key to my limits. Also, pompano in big schools have shown up and eating every sand flea on every fishing pole out in water!
Low Water Levels in Mosquito Lagoon
The bite continues to be good throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and south into Mosquito Lagoon. The water level has lowered quite a bit bringing a lot of the fish out of the ditches and on to the flats into schools and small groups.
Ready for Snook Season?
With snook season starting this week, the inlet will be the place to be for most -- and it will be packed! There's still some black drum as well as snook and a few redfish.
Battle at the Beach
We’ll wife and I went to Melbourne Beach for some surf fishing today on the incoming tide around 11:00 . Got setup and it started off slow, then got a keeper Pompano on a fishbite tipped with a dead shrimp. Then things got interesting. Wife’s rod does the little dance and it’s like great another pomp for the cooler. But no, she’s like this is big…..
Bass Bite Heats Up on Garcia
Last week seems like a turn to the better for fishing with our warmer days. Took a trip down to Garcia and it turned out to be a good day for bites. Nothing of size to brag about, but these days, that doesn’t matter to me, just as long as I get bites and catch a few fish.
Warm Temps Firing up the Bite
And just like that the fishing is great again! Warmer water temperatures have created a fantastic bite this week for anglers fishing in the lagoons and near-coastal waters.
2023 St Johns River American Shad Run…
Every year, when the favorable conditions come together, anglers on the St Johns River on the east coast of Central Florida await the arrival of another visitor from the North…the American Shad.
Good Bite in Fort Pierce
Live shrimp offered near hard structure like pilings, rocks piles or submerged shell beds are catching sheepshead, a mix of snappers, ladyfish, jacks, spotted seatrout, bluefish and lots more. If you run out of natural bait, tie on a Z-man three inch Minnowz or Streakz Curly Tailz and continue catching the more aggressive species without the hassle of re-baiting!
Kayak Fishing Report: Three Forks Marsh Conservation Area
So today I am going to talk about Three Forks Marsh Conservation Area. I have now fished this area 3 times, once in the early summer, once in the early fall, and this past weekend. Not to put a damper on the report before you dive in, but this is one of the areas I have covered that I will come out and say from the onset, it’s not as friendly toward the kayak (paddle powered) angler as it is if you had a boat.
What’s Working @ Headwaters
We have been on a pretty solid pattern the past week on artificial baits. Captain Andrew Mixon has been using a Boneshaker with a gold blade or the black/blue half ounce paired with the Bass Assassin Vapor Shad is my #1 choice. I’ve had better success on the flats with clean water and lots of hydrilla. My next choice would be a black blue flake 6” Senko.
