May Trout and Striper Fishing Report for North Georgia
May has finally arrived but the cool weather is not quite behind us. Though air temperatures have still been on the chilly in the mornings, water temps have been somewhat stable in our lakes and streams for the past few weeks. There is not a bad place to fish at [...]
Buck Lake Kayak Fishing
Today I am going to talk about a new spot I went and fished, Buck Lake in Harmony. This year I have made it a goal to get out and fish as many places as I can within driving distance of my home that are NOT world famous Bass fisheries that have been covered to death. I was doing some research on the Alligator chain of lakes in the St. Cloud area and stumbled across another lake, called Buck Lake.
Tarpon are Chewing!
It’s been a windy couple of weeks on the Space Coast. Here at Fineline Fishing Charters we have been working hard to get our anglers on “the bite." Perseverance pays big dividends because we have found a good group of 30 to 80 pound class tarpon that are VERY cooperative.
Success on the Otherside
Sea Leveler Sport Fishing Charters out of Port Canaveral was able to get to the Otherside of the Gulf Stream this week to chase some yellowfin tuna. May is typically a great month to target these fish.
Playalinda Pompano
Got a good session in this morning at Playalinda, lot 5 about 100 yards south of the ramp…you’ll see the rip...with my buddy Bob Givoglu. Caught 5 pompano, one whiting and a couple of cats from 7:30 to 10:30….bite shut down at dead low so we came home. All fish came on Surfari Pompano Rich rigs, 15-pound Diamond Braid, EZ-Flea FishBites and shrimp.
Storm Shakeup of Water Conditions
This week on the Space Coast has been interesting, to say the least. Brutal storms have been hammering the coast and really changing up the water conditions. With the influx of rain and run off, the river has come up quite a bit. This typically makes a good scenario for redfish crawling mangrove shorelines in search of an easy meal.
Lots of Mullet Activity
Had another good week inshore with the winds blowing the beach was pretty rough. Theres a lot of mullet in the lagoon for our spring run and the activity is pretty good. Plenty of snook and some bigger trout and a few reds mixed in. Jacks are thick in the mullet schools as well.
Artificial Bite Getting Good on Headwaters!
The artificial bite is getting really good. Fish topwater, big swimbaits, chatterbaits, speedworms or spinnerbaits and you’ll put fish in the boat. There is still giants being caught everyday on Headwaters.
Fort Pierce Inlet
Sorry for not posting over the past few weeks, but the relentless winds kept me homebound. The few early morning trips we did manage to squeeze in, though successful, were not worth bragging over.
Good Fishing Despite Showers
We have had a little hiccup in the weather this past week with some serious showers. The showers have not affected the bite at all throughout the Mosquito Lagoon.
Too much wind for too long
I wish these reports were every two weeks right now. I can't tell you if it's good or bad because we can't get out there. The damn wind. It's every day..... Show up and see and cancel.... I will say grouper season opened up with 30 knots, so thats typical... Maybe next year.
