Beating the Heat
Things are really heating up on the water here in the New Smyrna Beach area. We have been targeting several different species throughout the backwaters.
Still Haulinbass
3 forks has been continued to surprise. Small clumps of Lilly pads mixed with other grass is producing really good numbers. Same pattern topwater till 830 is then plastic baits.
Fishing the Indian River: This Week’s Action
This week, I targeted snook, trout, and redfish in the mangrove shorelines of the Indian River, focusing on morning fishing trips. The windblown areas with abundant baitfish held plenty of snook, waiting for an easy meal.
Kayak Fishing – Mosquito Lagoon & Haulover Canal
Today I am going to focus on a recent outing I had fishing Mosquito Lagoon & Haulover Canal with my friend Russel, aka Thumpr Fishing! We had a great time fishing with each other, and I am happy to report that upon returning to the Mosquito Lagoon that the grass is still there, and so are the Redfish! Let’s dive in.

The Ocean Obsession out of Sunrise Marina in Port Canaveral has consistently kept the customers on the fish this summer. Mangrove snapper, mutton snapper, lane snapper, triggerfish and sharks with the occasional kingfish, dolphin or cobia mixed in makes for fun fishing and good eating!
Fishing Remains Steady at Inlet
Here we go with this weeks's report on "what's happening at the inlet." Well, for the most part the fishing has remained steady, but with most of the action switching to the south side, where last week it was the north side, but the north side is still holding its own.
Inshore Bite Picking Up
The inshore bite picked up a bit this week with plenty of trout, snook and a few redfish early to mid morning. We've had a problem with sharks eating hooked fish in the lagoon which is something that we don't see often is Sebastian.
Still Starting Early…
With the afternoon rains in our area it has kept the waters from hitting the 90 degree marks. Still it’s been an early start and an early finish whether fishing the freshwater or saltwater waters.
Snook & Tarpon Special
Our Summertime snook and tarpon bite is as hot as the weather. Tarpon finally showed back up in good numbers this week along the near-coastal waters around Port Canaveral.
Trout Bite on Fire
The trout bite this past week has absolutely been on fire with lots of big trout coming on pigfish. Tarpon are still chewing on 6 to 8 inch finger mullet. Look for the bite to be slow for a few days but increasing as we get past the new moon.
