The Backup Plan…
We are lucky to live in or visit a state where there is usually always some type of fishing no matter the conditions. This past week has presented us with unstable weather which can sometimes call for multiple changes in tactics.
Good Fishing at Headwaters Despite Traffic
I was able to ride shotgun and fish Headwaters this past week. At 7am the parking was already into the overflow lot. Way too crowded for me but enjoyed a day on the water. We managed 13 fish, all on the smaller side compared to what this impoundment has to offer.
Quality Fish with the OO
The Ocean Obsession party boat out of Sunrise Marina at Port Canaveral, we've continued to put our customers on some quality fish and the sea conditions look great this week. We are running full day trips Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and half day trips Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Bring the kids! Our awesome crew always tries hard to make sure the junior anglers end up with a catch.
Excellent Sight Fishing
The fishing continues to be good throughout the Mosquito Lagoon and surrounding waters. With the cooler water temps, the water clarity has been excellent making for some great sight fishing. The redfish and black drum have been chewing great in the cooler water and as the water starts to warm later in the week the trout and snook should turn on as well. We still have a good number of bait throughout the area and as the week moves on, the air temps and water temps will only increase and should reassure the bite.
Stick Marsh/Headwaters Bass Report
I’ve had a bunch of live bait trips lately but I do get finished up early at times and get to fish a little. Today, I asked my client if he’d like to go on an artificial trip when we got finished and he was thrilled to learn some new techniques. I figured out the artificial bite pretty quickly this afternoon. I’ve got a few artificial trips coming up so I wanted to make sure my fish were still where they should be located (they were).
Winter in Full Effect!
Space Coast winter is in full effect! As cold as it may be, the fishing is finally starting to heat up. This time of the year can be very challenging, especially with such adverse conditions. This past week, the redfish and black drum bite has definitely picked up. Calmer, warmer days have definitely been more productive, especially if there is any approaching fronts.
Good Week in Lagoon & Along Beaches
Had a pretty good week in the lagoon and also along the beaches (when we could get outside and the wind wasn’t too strong). Water temps warmed up in the lagoon and the fish were pretty active.
Dual Swords
Captain Joey aboard the Sea Trident gave his customers an unforgettable trip of a lifetime catching not one, but two swordfish along with several dolphin. Sea Leveler Sport Fishing out of Port Canaveral offers a limited number of swordfish trips each year, so if you are interested in giving it a try, give us a call!
Local Bass Not Liking the Cold
The freshwater bite has been very slow this past week except for the people using live shiners. I fished Garcia a few days after the big cold front and didn’t even get a bite. To me this is very unusual as it holds great numbers of fish in a small 3000 acre body of water.
It’s Party Time
Out of Sunrise Marina in Port Canaveral, we have continued to put out customers on the fish! 36 snappers, 2 triggers & 1 cobia with only 20 on the boat. This is a great week to fish, so take advantage of the weather window the first part of the week and book a trip with us! We've had light crowds everyday as of right now, so enjoy a low volume trip on the party boat while the fishing is good!
Kayak Fishing Report: Downtown Melbourne and Stick Marsh
After that bitter arctic blast around Christmas, and tough fishing conditions in between then and New Years Day, it was really nice to have a few warm days to start 2023 off with some fun and exciting days on the water. I was able to get out on January 4th and again on the 8th. I fished inshore on the Indian River Lagoon and Crane Creek on the 4th and went down to the Stick Marsh on Sunday.
Solo Pompano at Spessard Holland South 1/8
Fished outgoing from just about slack high to mid-tide on Sunday. Only action was an 18" pompano on Fishbites Shrimp, caught way out past the breakers around noon. A half dozen other anglers in the vicinity struck out through mid-day on Sunday.
