Kayak Fishing Report: South Florida Special – Lake Ida
This past week was spring break, I was really excited to do a lot of fishing, and well….the weather kind of sucked. BUT, I took advantage of the cooler weather and decided to go south, and do something I’ve been wanting to do for some time, go after Peacock Bass.
Kayak Fishing Report – Sweet and Salty
This past weekend I had a chance to fish both days. I spent Saturday afternoon in the sweetwater, going back to Fox Lake for the second time in a month, and on Sunday I got my saltwater fix and went to a “new” spot. I had actually launched out of this place once before, in the summer of 2021, but I have never mentioned or written about this as a potential launch spot in a SpaceFish report.
Kayak Fishing Report: Over the Dam – Eau Gallie River
I fished Saturday on the Eau Gallie River, and to say the least it was a pretty wild day. I had an absolute ball, covered miles of the river, went over the dam and fished the freshwater side, and ended up catching 22 total fish from 7 different species.
Kayak Fishing Report: Fox Lake (Titusville)
I hope everyone had an awesome week. I got out on Saturday and fished a place I have never been before, Fox Lake in Titusville. I live in Melbourne between exits 182 and 183 on I-95, so I’m situated about halfway between this lake and Stick Marsh/Headwaters, one of my New Year’s Resolutions this year was to do more fishing in the northern parts of Brevard County/Space Coast, and also to find more great places to kayak Bass fish beyond the Stick Marsh/Headwaters.
Fishing with My Boys – Special Report
After a weekend which featured an extremely windy Saturday and a damp and dreary rainy day on Sunday, I decided to switch gears from the usual kayak fishing report and cover something else, that many of you out there reading have done before, or will do in the future - which is taking small children fishing.
Kayak Fishing Report: Three Forks Marsh Conservation Area
So today I am going to talk about Three Forks Marsh Conservation Area. I have now fished this area 3 times, once in the early summer, once in the early fall, and this past weekend. Not to put a damper on the report before you dive in, but this is one of the areas I have covered that I will come out and say from the onset, it’s not as friendly toward the kayak (paddle powered) angler as it is if you had a boat.

Kayak Fishing Report: Downtown Melbourne and Stick Marsh
After that bitter arctic blast around Christmas, and tough fishing conditions in between then and New Years Day, it was really nice to have a few warm days to start 2023 off with some fun and exciting days on the water. I was able to get out on January 4th and again on the 8th. I fished inshore on the Indian River Lagoon and Crane Creek on the 4th and went down to the Stick Marsh on Sunday.
Kayak Fishing Report: In the Bleak Midwinter
I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas, and Happy New Years! Our family had a wonderful Christmas, our two young boys had a great time, which was just magical for my wife and I to see.
Kayak Fishing Report: The Stick Marsh
It’s Christmas time folks! So why not go on down to the most notorious tree farm in the area? Make [...]
Kayak Fishing Report – Holiday Travel Special Part I: Tomoka State Park
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday, my family went to Georgia to spend the week with family for our Thanksgiving break. I took the opportunity to fish two places I have never fished before. I fished one on the way up, and one on the way back. This is the season where people may find themselves traveling up and down I-95, so I wanted to share two places that are within a few miles of the interstate, but have an off the beaten path feel and experience to them.
Kayak Fishing Report: Turkey Creek – Palm Bay
Turkey Creek - I feel bad, like I have neglected you these last 3 years. I love kayak fishing the Eau Gallie River, and Crane Creek and over the last few years of living here have put in my time on both. I went out to Turkey Creek in August but had a horrible day - I spent more time ducking thunder storms than fishing.
Kayak Fishing Report: Mangroves to Marshes
This past weekend I had a chance to get out a go fishing on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I launched out of Long Point Park Saturday and had a good trip, and went out to Headwaters on Sunday, my first time fishing there since June. So I wanted to give a bit of info about both trips, and both launch spots.
Kayak Fishing Report: Changing Weather/Changing Tactics
So this past week saw a cold front push through, and then strong north winds in the days that followed. I was able to go out and fish Saturday morning, I was going to return to Long Point to do a spot report there, but I ended up changing plans and fishing the Banana River in the Thousand Islands off of Cocoa Beach due to time constraints, and the need to make a Lowe's run after fishing for a home project we were working on this past weekend.
