“Spacefish Special” Extended to the Flats!

snook

The snook bite at Canaveral and Sebastian continues to amaze me again this week. These fish are everywhere! Next to mangrove roots, under docks, in the flats, near the jetties, and even along the beaches. There has never been a better time to chase snook than right now. Over the past week my anglers have landed so many snook between 22 and 32-inches that I’ve lost count. However, Monday we did struggle with the high winds, passing rain showers and rising barometric pressure. This shut the bite down after the morning frenzy. Live baits are producing the biggest fish in both the lagoons and the inlets. Some of these snook are running into the 40 inch range. Artificial lures are very productive on the smaller fish in the lagoons near docks and mangrove trees. Along the near-coastal waters the best bait has been a medium sized live shrimp on a 1/8 to 1/4-ounce jig head. Artificial shrimp will work in both places but really shine when fished under docks along the west shoreline of the Indian River Lagoon.

I’ve had some good responses to my “Spacefish Special” offer that I put on last week’s report and want to thank those of you who have taken advantage of it. I did have a couple of anglers that contacted me about it but they get sea sick and didn’t want to tempt their fate by booking a near-coastal excursion. So I booked them with the same discount for a flats trip so they could get out and try their luck at catching some snook, trout, jacks, juvenile tarpon and redfish with me. I’m going to extend my offer to those of you who want to go but may not have contacted me to ask about this possibility. So here we are… any afternoon 4-hour flats/lagoon trip or any afternoon 5-hour near-coastal trip that you book to run between today and May 29th will receive a $50 Spacefish discount! You must call me to get the code for your reservation discount at 321-636-3728. Leave a message if I don’t answer because I’m out on the water with clients. I’ll call you back later when I get in from that day’s trip. This offer only applies to trips run before May 30th so get booked for the day you want and let’s go catch you next memory!

Red Snapper, Kinds, Mahi…

We have some great fishing going on offshore right now. The kingfish have been plentiful and hungry! We are catching some mahi too while targeting the kingfish. The red snapper have been our primary bottom catches. They are fun to catch even though we can’t keep them. It’s a great time to get offshore so give us a call if you want to go catch some of these species.

Kingfish, Mahi & Cobia

What a great weekend of fishing. Kingfish, mahi and cobia were the main species caught on our most recent trips offshore. Slow trolling live and dead bait both have been working. Always keep a pitch rod ready to go because when you get into the mahi, there are typically more than just one around and casting to them is such a fun way to catch them.

Back on the Water!

Super excited to announce the Ocean Obsession (OO) out of Sunrise Marina in Port Canaveral is finished with the awesome boat upgrades from this past winter and is back on the water! On their most recent trip, they put their customers on a nice variety of fish. Mangrove snapper, lane snapper, porgy’s and triggerfish were all caught in good numbers. There were no heroes but a lot of great tasting fish to bring home for dinner. The OO is a first class operation so book your trip now for their next time out.

Slow Trolling the Reefs

Slow Trolling the Reefs

The fishing was good on the days we could get out there. Our customers caught a number of different species. Slow trolling both 8A and Pelican reefs produced good numbers of kingfish with a couple dolphin mixed in. There have also been catches of blackfin tuna and sailfish in these areas as well. The bottom bite didn’t disappoint either. Red grouper, red snapper, lane snapper and triggerfish were the main species caught. A lot of rod bending action and great eats for our customers.

Yellowfin Trip Out of the Port

Our first Yellowfin tuna trip out of the Port went fantastic Sunday 3/22! Ended up with 10 beautiful YFT and had a beautiful ocean about 80-90 miles out! The west wall of the stream was sporty to say the least… Overall it was an amazing day, with amazing clients! Birds were thick, and tunas were hungry!

We have over 30 tuna trips on the schedule already this year! I look forward to sharing plenty of fishing reports with the local community! We will also be doing some deep drop trips for swordfish as well!

Kingfish Cooperating

Kingfish Cooperating

When we were able to get offshore last week the kingfish were eager and willing to play. We caught a bunch of great fish, and they were quality sized fish, which made for a fun day for our clients. Our game plan is consistent, we try to cast net bait before running offshore but we are not always successful so a backup box of frozen minnows is a must. Slow troll these bats over 8A or Pelican Reef and see what’s biting. We have caught some sailfish too lately doing this.

Finesse Fishing

Finesse Fishing

We found the right weather window this past week and took a nearshore fishing trip. We had nonstop action on some unique species and a few big boys with some real shoulders, all caught on light tackle. We caught a lot of fish on this trip, releasing most of what we landed but kept a few for some dinners. On this fishing day we had quantity as well as quality fish with some big sheepshead almost to 5 pounds, giant margates and a variety of sizes on black drum along with lanes and mangroves. We lost some big fish due to light tackle size, but you know how that goes, light tackle many bites heavy tackle no bites. We also had some goliaths take some nice fish while we were trying to reel them up before being engulfed by the bucket mouths. Most fish species are closed but it was no problem getting some nice table fare, it was a busy day for Dallas and me, get out there and have some fun.

Fun Fishing & Good Eats Offshore

We only got offshore a couple of times last week, but we were able to put our customers on some fun fishing and good eats. Kingfish were willing to play on the troll and targeting the bottom, we ended up with some really nice lane snapper and triggerfish. That’s a fine day of fishing and some good fish to bring home for dinner.
