Fishing Getting Better Each Day
The fishing is getting better each day, as the water cools off we are seeing pompano schools making their way down the coast along with whiting and nice drum. We are targeting them using set rigs with fresh dead baits like shrimp, clams and crab knuckles tipped with fish gum.
Crazy November
It’s been a crazy November here on the Space Coast. Hurricanes, cold fronts, and even summer type hot days... Even with all the crazy abnormal weather things are slowly getting into a routine, black drum are gathering in good numbers, bull reds are still present but spreading out.
Long Point
The over slot Snook the wife caught at Long Point today
Long Point
Launched our kayaks out of Long Point Park this morning around 10:00. Was slow for awhile then things picked up nicely. Wife wrestled in a nice slob Snook along with four smaller ones I caught a slam nothing very large though. Snook we’re up under the vegetation and chewing on [...]
Kayak Fishing Report – Holiday Travel Special Part I: Tomoka State Park
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday, my family went to Georgia to spend the week with family for our Thanksgiving break. I took the opportunity to fish two places I have never fished before. I fished one on the way up, and one on the way back. This is the season where people may find themselves traveling up and down I-95, so I wanted to share two places that are within a few miles of the interstate, but have an off the beaten path feel and experience to them.
Throw Big Baits for Trophy Bass this Fall
Fall is one of my favorite times of the year to target trophy bass. Here in central Florida, late October and November is when our summer weather officially transitions. Average air temperature and water temperature begins to drop after we receive a tropical storm and/or a cold front. These weather changes will transition bass and bait fish from their summer patterns into their fall/winter staging areas of the lake.
Busy Week of Fishing
It was a busy Thanksgiving week, fishing inshore and nearshore a couple days when the weather would allow. A lot of North wind made us find cover from the wind and a little rain, but we found plenty of trout, jacks and ladyfish with a few snook and reds on artificial.
Cut Baits Out Performing Lures
We had been catching decent numbers of trout, redfish, and a few snook along the mangrove covered shores lining the Indian and Banana River Lagoons but the cooler and windier weather has changed how the fish want to bite for us this week. Lures are no longer our “go to” after the first hour or so of the day.
Pompano Season, Good Shark Fishing
Pompano season is here and there are lots of anglers who are ready to get into the bite. It’s been a very busy holiday season with work and making the most out of the time we have to fish is essential.
Upped Aggression Pre-Fronts
The fishing has been on fire these last few days with trout, redfish, black drum, snook, and mangrove snapper being caught, mostly on live shrimp or artificial lures.
Good Bite in Mosquito Lagoon
The bite continues to be good throughout the area. We have had a couple trying days with very unstable weather with winds and rain but it still did not stop us from catching. We have been boating several different species from snook, redfish and trout to flounder and mangrove snapper.
Weather & Bite in Transition
The weather is changing this week and so is the bite. Our near coastal trips have been producing a variety of fish species including bluefish, jack, redfish, and ladyfish. Live fingerling mullet rigged on a knocker rig or jig head have been the best live bait to use for all of these species.
