Pompano and Drums

By |2023-01-01T13:53:31-05:001.1.2023|

Went surf fishing near Pineda New years eve around noon and caught four juvenile black drum between 7-10in and a couple keeper 17in and 15in pompano's. Once the outgoing high tide hit, the water got a little dirty and the bite COMPLETELY stopped around 2pm. It was mostly cloudy, but [...]

Great Conditions for Sheepshead

By |2022-12-26T19:28:25-05:0012.26.2022|

Hope everyone had a very merry Christmas! The Space Coast is definitely feeling a little out of the norm lately. This past week's cold front has been an incredible one, to say the least -- record low temps, freezing rain even -- these make for some less than desirable fishing conditions. However, as tough as it may be there is still several species that this type of weather is really good for.

A Cold Few Days…

By |2022-12-26T16:09:11-05:0012.26.2022|

It’s been a cold few days for us Floridians. Our water temperatures most likely dropped 10-15 degrees from last week at this time. There is a little bit of a warming trend for the latter part of our week and hopefully the fish will come out of their shock (including us humans) and want to eat.

Fairly Slow Bite This Week

By |2022-12-19T18:19:25-05:0012.19.2022|

Overall, it’s been a fairly slow bite this week, but as the fish become more accustomed to these cooler conditions the bite is bound to improve. Snook, bluefish, jack and pompano are striking live shrimp along the near-coastal waters on our recent excursions. I like to rig my shrimp on a 1/8 to 1/4 ounce jig head and work them slowly along the sandy bottom areas inside and outside of Port Canaveral. As long as the winds are out of the north or west these areas should continue to be fishable.

3 Forks Remains A Bit Murky

By |2022-12-19T14:59:38-05:0012.19.2022|

I was only out on the water one day last week. A short trip on 3 Forks before the rains moved in. They are still moving water into the St. John’s as some of the areas we went to were very dirty and a foul odor was present as well. I managed a trifecta catch of a couple of frisky bluegill, one crappie and two small bass all eating my beetle spin. We were watching a large rain system off to our east as we fished the area and managed to run from the first part but the second half of it just got larger with much more rain to it so we called it a day.
