Kayak Fishing Report: Downtown Melbourne and Stick Marsh

By |2023-04-12T23:04:12-04:001.9.2023|Locations: |

After that bitter arctic blast around Christmas, and tough fishing conditions in between then and New Years Day, it was really nice to have a few warm days to start 2023 off with some fun and exciting days on the water. I was able to get out on January 4th and again on the 8th. I fished inshore on the Indian River Lagoon and Crane Creek on the 4th and went down to the Stick Marsh on Sunday.

Kayak Fishing Report – Holiday Travel Special Part I: Tomoka State Park

By |2023-04-12T23:19:53-04:0011.28.2022|Locations: |

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday, my family went to Georgia to spend the week with family for our Thanksgiving break. I took the opportunity to fish two places I have never fished before. I fished one on the way up, and one on the way back. This is the season where people may find themselves traveling up and down I-95, so I wanted to share two places that are within a few miles of the interstate, but have an off the beaten path feel and experience to them.

Kayak Fishing Report: Turkey Creek – Palm Bay

By |2023-04-12T23:04:28-04:0011.6.2022|Locations: |

Turkey Creek - I feel bad, like I have neglected you these last 3 years. I love kayak fishing the Eau Gallie River, and Crane Creek and over the last few years of living here have put in my time on both. I went out to Turkey Creek in August but had a horrible day - I spent more time ducking thunder storms than fishing.

Kayak Fishing Report: Mangroves to Marshes

By |2024-05-20T20:33:04-04:0011.2.2022|Locations: , , |

This past weekend I had a chance to get out a go fishing on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I launched out of Long Point Park Saturday and had a good trip, and went out to Headwaters on Sunday, my first time fishing there since June. So I wanted to give a bit of info about both trips, and both launch spots.

Kayak Fishing Report: Changing Weather/Changing Tactics

By |2024-05-20T20:33:23-04:0010.25.2022|Locations: , |

So this past week saw a cold front push through, and then strong north winds in the days that followed. I was able to go out and fish Saturday morning, I was going to return to Long Point to do a spot report there, but I ended up changing plans and fishing the Banana River in the Thousand Islands off of Cocoa Beach due to time constraints, and the need to make a Lowe's run after fishing for a home project we were working on this past weekend.

Kayak Fishing Report: Pine Island Conservation Area – Sam’s Creek

By |2024-05-20T20:34:11-04:0010.3.2022|Locations: , |

I hope that everyone was able to weather the storm, and that no one’s home or property was damaged. The way it has felt outside since the storm passed, with crisp cool mornings, and highs in the lower 80's it feels like fall is creeping its way here on the Space Coast.

Kayak Fishing Report: The Calm Weekend Before The Storm

By |2024-05-20T20:35:06-04:009.26.2022|Locations: , |

Saturday evening I was on the Eau Gallie River, the Elbow Creek stretch, and there were hundreds of White Ibises perched in the mangroves. I thought that was cool, it was beautiful and kind of ominous at the same time. The Ibis is synomous with hurricanes, that's why Miami's mascot is Sebastian the Ibis.

Kayak Fishing Report: Honest John’s Fish Camp – Old Florida Experience

By |2024-05-20T20:41:15-04:009.19.2022|Locations: , , |

Saturday morning I got up early and spent the day fishing one of my absolute favorite places to launch out of and fish. Honest John’s Fish Camp located on Mullet Creek on the Indian River Lagoon, a few miles north of Sebastian Inlet, and just southwest of Indian River Preserve State Park

Kayak Fishing Report: Labor Day Weekend – Crane Creek and Goat Creek

By |2024-05-20T20:37:06-04:009.5.2022|Locations: , |

I hope everyone had a fantastic Labor Day Holiday weekend! I was able to get out and fish twice, and we enjoyed a great family meal - I prepared all of it except the Mac and Cheese my wife has a guarded homemade recipe she got from her mama, but I smoked ribs, cooked my special jambalaya, baked beans, grilled corn and garlic toast on the grill (which is a fantastic choice to sop up a plate of bbq and all the sides we had).

Kayak Fishing Report: Hot Tarpon/Snook Bite on Eau Gallie River

By |2024-05-20T20:36:46-04:008.29.2022|Locations: |

We have probably gotten more rain in the last 2 weeks in the Eau Gallie district of Melbourne than we have in the last 2 months. It seems that way, anyway. My yard isn’t the only thing that has been fired up about it, the Snook and Tarpon populations on the Eau Gallie River were fired up and absolutely chewing this weekend.

Kayak Fishing Report: St. Sebastian River Back Country Slam

By |2024-05-20T20:35:49-04:008.22.2022|Locations: |

I hope everyone had a great weekend! At the end of every class period on Friday I talk to my students about the upcoming weekend, I tell them fun thing my family and I plan on doing, I hear from them etc. My 7th period U.S. History class has a few young men that like to talk fishing, and they know I love Snook and Tarpon, and Largemouth Bass.
