LATEST REPORTS
Kayak Fishing: Fisherman’s Landing – Grant, FL
oday I am going to talk about a spot in the Grant-Valkaria area that is a truly fantastic place to launch a kayak or paddleboard and go inshore fishing. The park is called "Fisherman's Landing" and with a name like that, I would have been severely disappointed if the fishing would not have been on point, but two trips in the last month resulted in inshore slams being caught both times, so no complaints from me!
Lake Ivanhoe Kayak Fishing
This week I am diving back into urban Orlando, kayak Bass fishing. This is something that I have started to really enjoy doing for a couple of reasons, chief amongst them is I’ve had nothing but enjoyable fishing experiences to this point.
Trout Lake Bass Fishing
This week I am going to dive back into the Alligator Chain of Lakes, which crosses over 192 in St. Cloud, Florida. Last week I went and fished my 3rd lake on this chain, bypassing Alligator Lake and Lake Lizzie.
Topwater Insurgency
So right now is the time to fish topwater - there is no more exciting way to catch fish than to go up top! So let’s start slinging them plugs!
Kayak Report: Winter Park Chain & Headwaters
This week I fished the northern part of the Winter Park chain of lakes (Lake Nina and Lake Maitland, and also hit Headwaters Lake...
Kayak Fishing: Banana River and More
I have been enjoying my first week off of school, and have taken advantage of the opportunity to get out and fish and explore new places/places I haven't been in over a year. I fished a new spot on the Banana River outside of Cocoa Beach, fished an early morning on the Indian River Lagoon and did some Bass fishing with my cousin Mark who is down for our family reunion. So let's dive in!
Creek Fishing: Guide on Paddle Fishing the Tributaries of the Indian River Lagoon
So this week, I am really excited to talk about what might be my favorite way to kayak fish here on the Space Coast – “Creek Fishing”. I am talking about the Eau Gallie River & Elbow Creek, St. Sebastian River, Crane Creek, Turkey Creek, Goat Creek, Horse Creek (lot’s of generic animal creeks).
Lake Gentry Kayak Fishing
This past weekend I jumped onto the southernmost lake on what is called the “Alligator” chain of lakes. This chain stretches from South to North, across 192 before you get into St. Cloud. To get to my launch spot I actually took a left in Harmony, and got to drive through Orange groves and cattle farms on my way to Lake Gentry.
Snook: My Gateway Drug to Kayak Fishing Addiction
Flashback. It is January of 2017, I was in the process of leaving my position as Assistant Football Coach at LaGrange College in Georgia where I was a very poorly paid, small college position coach
Buck Lake Kayak Fishing
Today I am going to talk about a new spot I went and fished, Buck Lake in Harmony. This year I have made it a goal to get out and fish as many places as I can within driving distance of my home that are NOT world famous Bass fisheries that have been covered to death. I was doing some research on the Alligator chain of lakes in the St. Cloud area and stumbled across another lake, called Buck Lake.
Panama Kayak Adventure
It was easily the most dangerous fishing I had ever done. Large Pacific swells crashed against the rocks. Farther offshore those swells were no big deal – just a gentle rise and fall. Inshore, waves rebounding off the cliffs combined with incoming swells created unpredictable, turbulent seas. The trick was to get my kayak close enough to cast a popper among the rocks while staying far enough away that a rogue wave wouldn’t wash me into the impact zone.
Free Resources For Game-Planning Kayak Fishing Trips
So I want to switch gears a bit this week. Instead of detailing a particular place, I want to talk about game planning. One of the challenges of kayak fishing is covering ground, you can’t just zoom across a lake or the lagoon, or several miles up or down a river with the power of an outboard motor. Picking where to fish in my opinion is more important than choosing what or how to fish.
Kayak Fishing Report: St. John’s River & Lake Poinsett
So this past weekend I did some Bass fishing on the olde Rio San Juan, and the northern part of “Lake” Poinsett. I put the word lake in air quotes because it is not an actual lake in so much as it is a wide section of the St. John’s River.
Kayak Fishing Report: Winter Park Chain of Lakes
My wife and I had the day off from school on Friday, our kids stayed with their grandparents so we decided to get up early and go fish and paddle somewhere that has been on our list to go check out for some time, the Winter Park Chain of Lakes. From our house it was roughly an hour drive, but for those living on the north end of Brevard County/Space Coast it is probably closer to 45ish minutes.
