Indian River Fishing Report
This week's focus was on exploring both dock structures and mangrove shorelines/flats. While the docks were relatively quiet, the mangroves and flats proved to be hotspots.
Best Kayak Fishing Spots in East Central Florida
Anglers of all types get excited for fall fishing along the East Central Florida region. I thought this would be a good time to write a compilation piece of my personal favorite kayak fishing spots in our area of the state. I am going to break the list down by species, and list 3 places for the 5 major sport fish targetted by kayak anglers.
Kayak Fishing: Crane Creek
Today I hope everyone has enjoyed their Labor Day weekend! The weekend started on a high note for me, as my football team, the Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers went up to Ocala and beat the team that knocked us out of the Regional Finals last year, Trinity Catholic, 38-6.
Kayak Fishing: State Parks in Danger
So this week, my "report" is a little different. Instead of breaking down a specific spot, I am going to talk about an issue that arose over the past week. It is an issue that as a Florida Kayak Angler concerns me on a deep level - it is the recent proposal by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to alter some of Florida’s most iconic State Parks.
Kayak Fishing: Turkey Creek
It is hot as Satan’s armpit outside, and there has been very little wind - this is also why I consider this time of year to be the dog days. That being said, there has been one species of fish that hasn’t gotten lockjaw over the past few weeks, and that has been the Tarpon. This week I am going to dive into Turkey Creek, one of Brevard County’s best places to go after this pre-historic sport fish.
Fishing Forecast: Excellent
Another exciting week of fishing is ahead of us, with a continuation of last week's successful strategy. Our focus remains on dock fishing, with some exploration of the spoil islands.
Snookin’ the Docks
This week, I strictly focused on dock fishing, targeting snook in the Indian River. I primarily used the Mirrolure Lil John 1/16 oz jig, but also mixed in a paddle tail from time to time.
Weekly Indian River Kayak Fishing Update
The week started off strong with favorable fishing conditions, but unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse in the latter half. Despite the challenges, I was able to find some productive spots, focusing on spoil islands and docks, which both yielded some great catches.
Kayak Fishing – Eau Gallie River
Summer is my favorite season on the Space Coast because I get more time to fish because I am not in school, it’s the best time of the year to throw topwater baits inshore, and Tarpon show up in high numbers in our inshore fishery.
Fishing the Indian River: This Week’s Action
This week, I targeted snook, trout, and redfish in the mangrove shorelines of the Indian River, focusing on morning fishing trips. The windblown areas with abundant baitfish held plenty of snook, waiting for an easy meal.
Kayak Fishing – Mosquito Lagoon & Haulover Canal
Today I am going to focus on a recent outing I had fishing Mosquito Lagoon & Haulover Canal with my friend Russel, aka Thumpr Fishing! We had a great time fishing with each other, and I am happy to report that upon returning to the Mosquito Lagoon that the grass is still there, and so are the Redfish! Let’s dive in.
Consistent Bite on IRL’s Mangrove Shorelines
This week, I targeted the mangrove shorelines in the Indian River, focusing on early morning fishing trips to beat the heat. The bite has been consistent throughout the morning, slowing down as the sun rises higher in the sky.
Micro Slam on the Canaveral Barge Canal/Sykes Creek
Today I am going to report on a new kayak fishing spot in Merritt Island. The Canaveral Barge Canal & Sykes Creek. I went to this spot because it's really hot outside, and I was hoping to find some bigger fish laid up in the deeper water of the canal, and in Sykes Creek.
Weekly Fishing Report
It was a typical week on the water, with plenty of average-sized catches to go around. However, the scorching heat made things a bit more challenging for both fishermen and fish alike.
Kayak Fishing for St. Sebastian River Tarpon
Today's report goes back to last weekend, where I made my first Tarpon specific trip of the year, to one of East Central Florida’s most famous Tarpon fisheries, the St. Sebastian River.
