Craaazy November Weather
Here we are into mid November and still with highs near 90 and the possibility of a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. But with all the craziness of weather the bite continues to be strong throughout the New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon waters. We continue to have plenty of bait on the flats making for an abundance of life. Artificials and live bait have both been working well making for an enjoyable time catching fishing on the water. The weather looks to be stable moving into the weekend and then possible storms mid week depending on approaching storm.

Lots of Options This Time of Year
This is the time of the year that offers up a number of different fishing options and species to target. Whether you want to sight-fish for reds on the flats or catch tarpon in the river, you can do it. The bite has been on fire with the mullet run starting to slow down. There’s still lots of fish looking to capitalize on the remaining schools of mullet pushing through.
I have days available in November and December. If you want to go catch some fish, give me a call at 386-295-5991 or go to my website.

Bait Continues to Flood the Flats
The bite continues to stay strong throughout Mosquito Lagoon and the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach. We have been dealing with some isolated showers the last few days but it has not affected the bite. The weather looks to be stable into the weekend making for some great fishing days. The bait continues to flood the flats with a lot of life in and around the bait pods. Plugs early and then moving to spoons and soft plastics have been working well along with a variety of live bait like pinfish, finger mullet and shrimp.

Inconsistent Bite
The bite has been a little inconsistent this past week. We still have an influx of fresh water draining into the intracoastal and Mosquito Lagoon. The bait is still plentiful throughout the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. The fish are still there but just a little scattered so you have to put your time in to locate them, but they are definitely chewing when you find them. They have been receptive to both live bait and artificials.
If we can get a cool front to move through in the next week or so it will really get these fish fired up as of right now they’re still kinda in limbo of a summer time pattern or a Fall pattern. The weather looks to be the same into the weekend but we have a little chance of a front next week.

Large Mullet Schools Moving Through
The site fishing has been very good for redfish this past week with a few trout and some snook mixed in. We still have some really nice tarpon in the channels. With the large schools of mullet moving through the next couple weeks this should be some of the best tarpon fishing of the season. I have days available between now and Thanksgiving so if you want to give me a call at 386-295-5991 or go to my website fatfishguide.com

Strange October Weather
We have definitely had some strange weather this first part of October. Central Florida gets hammered by Hurricane Milton causing a major inconvenience with flooding, trees down and power outages across the state. Then immediately after Milton the first cold front of the season dipped into Central Florida as well. Fortunately we were only down for a couple of days here at Spot N Tail Charters.
We hit the water where we left off before the storm with fish in a little different pattern but did not take long to get back on them. The bait is plentiful through out New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. look for the pods of bait holding on the grass and bars and the fish will not be far. Live bait and artificials have both been working well these past few days. The weather looks to be stable for the upcoming week making for a good time on the water.

Mosquito Lagoon Lower and Cleaner than Expected
The water in the Mosquito Lagoon is not as high as expected nor as dirty. Their schools of large jacks and redfish are starting to school up. Keep an eye out for tailing redfish that can be caught with a well placed shrimp or a slow paddle tail. Early morning top water is working well. I’m still seeing some tarpon around as well as large schools of finger mullet which should last until we get a good strong cold front. The bite should be on fire! I have days available this month whether you want to tarpon fish or target inshore species such as redfish, trout, snook and black drum. Give me a call at 386-295-5991 or go right to my website www.fatfishguide.com.

Post-Milton Fishing
This week has been a let’s prepare for Hurricane Milton to come and whip our butts here in Florida. Prior to Milton showing, the bite was good and I foresee the bite being just as good after the storm passes. Typically the fish chew really well after large storms like hurricanes and tropical storms as long as you can get out on the water safely. I pray for the west coast of Florida as they are taking it on the chin from a category 4 hurricane but just like we always do here in Florida we will build back even better. The great news is that the weather looks great after the passing of Milton which will make more comfortable fishing weather.

Tarpon Bite Remains Good
This past week the tarpon bite and the snook bite have been on fire! There have been lots of reds caught too. Post tropical storm/hurricane, after things settle down, can be some incredible fishing. With the high water look for fishing places that are normally too shallow to get into or possibly even dry and use artificial plastics, mullett and live shrimp and you should crush it. I have days open this month so feel free to reach out after the storm and book a charter with me. You call call 386-295-5991 go to my website.

Plenty of Scattered Bait
The bite continues to be strong through out the waters of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon. We still have great numbers of bait fish scattered near shore and inshore providing a food source for all the game fish. Look for schools of bait holding on and around the shell beds to the north and grass flats to the south. Targeting the bait schools will produce the bites from red fish and trout to snook and jacks. They have been chewing well in live bait like pin fish and finger mullet but the artificial has also been creating bite as well. It looks as though we have a low pressure moving in later this week into the weekend so that should be really good just before it arrives.

Challenging Bite with Full Moon
The bite has been a little challenging this past week with the full moon phase. Between the influx of rain over the past couple of weeks and the stronger tide swings from the full moon we have had a lot of water throughout the New Smyrna Beach backwaters and Mosquito Lagoon. The fish are still there and ready to eat but just takes a little more effort to locate them as they have new areas to explore with higher water. Search baits like plugs and spoons have been working well when targeting the large pods of bait that are scattered across the flats. Live bait has also been doing the trick to keep a consistent bite as well. As we get through this full moon phase the water levels should start to get back to normal and the bite will only get better.

No More Drought!
I would have to say that we are no longer in drought conditions here in Central Florida, it has rained every day for the past week. Although with the influx of water in the Mosquito Lagoon it has not affected the bite at all. It has made it a harder to locate them because it has allowed them more areas to wonder but when you find them they will eat. The key has been focusing on the schools of bait scattered across the oyster bars in the New Smyrna beach area and the shallow grass flats in the Lagoon. Artificials and live bait have both been working well. It looks like the afternoon showers will be here for the rest of the week so the mornings will most likely be best to stay dry.
