Just Shark Fishing

We never made it offshore last week so all we’ve been doing is shark fishing. The winds haven’t been that favorable and honestly offshore is not that great right now so we just been making the best of it along the beach and the shark fishing has been insane. There are a number of other species roaming our beaches right now like Spanish mackerel, bonita, jacks and we are even starting to see some tarpon. The sharks are not picky, any big piece of cut bait will get them to bite but if you can get a bonita, that seems to be their favorite.

Full Board Showing

The Ocean Obsession fishing out of Sunrise Marina at Port Canaveral showed out with a full board of all kinds of different fish. Lane, mangrove, mutton and red snapper were all caught. Even though you can’t keep the reds, they are still a blast to catch. Other species that made for some great table fare for their customers were triggerfish, grunts, kingfish and a dolphin. You just never know who’s coming to dinner. Keep an eye out for their next trip and take advantage of getting offshore with the awesome captain and crew.

Offshore Port Canaveral

We are going to start providing a quick video fishing report that will touch on fishing for our customers and fishing for the locals with their own boats. At the beginning of each month it will be a broad “what to expect” and as water, weather, temperature, clarity, sea conditions, bait, etc. change, we will keep you updated through each month as needed.

Shark Trips Didn’t Disappoint

shark fishing

With the consistently strong winds last week it pretty much had us focusing on shark trips near shore and boy oh boy it didn’t disappoint. Capt. Joe put on a clinic putting our customers on some big old toothy critters. If you have never locked horns with a big shark, this is a great time to do it. They are here and willing to play!

Give us a call to book one of these awesome shark trips.

Tough Getting Offshore

Tough Getting Offshore

With the increased winds this past week preventing us from consistently getting offshore we switched gears for our customers and did a pile of shark trips. They were all very successful and our clients had a blast playing tug-o-war with some of these beasts!

We did get offshore one day but it was not good or worth even talking about. No kingfish around yet, just a bunch of smaller bottom fish. I would recommend staying nearshore and catching some of these bigger fish. They are a lot of fun!

Shark Fishing on Fire!

  • cobia port canaveral

Nearshore shark fishing has been on fire! It’s been nonstop action for our customers wanting to lock horns with these toothy critters. Offshore, the kingfish are gone right now but we are starting to see a couple of mahi trickle in. There definitely seems to be more cobia in the last week and we have seen some rays out deep. Chicken rigging has been on fire for Captain Joe with lots of lane snapper and some triggerfish being caught. Always be prepared with a pitch rod while targeting these bottom fish.

Kingfish Starting to Trickle In

Shark fishing has been on fire for the last week and a half or so. Using cut bait out in front of the pier has been working just fine. Kingfish are starting to trickle in again on the reefs. Catching live bunker has been hit or miss but minnows seem to get the job done with a duster on it. Bottom fishing for triggerfish and snapper have been really good for Captain and Joe this week.

Cobia and Kings on Pelican

We only finished one day last week. The goal is to always try to catch live bait before heading offshore. Some days we do, some days we don’t. The good news is the pogies were plentiful and in the Port so we got live bait pretty quickly. We focused on fishing Pelican and managed some decent kingfish and a few short cobia too. Looking forward to our next break in the wind to get back out and catch’em up!

Fun Fishing on the Reefs

The kingfish have been on the reefs one day in good numbers and then the next day they’re not. It’s been kind of odd honestly. Pogies are showing up in the port, actually more into the bite but they are there. Catching bait before you run offshore always stacks the deck in your favor. Bottom species that have been most consistent are triggerfish and lane snapper. This is fun chicken-rig fishing that the kiddo’s love. You don’t need to go farther than the reef, this is where the action is concentrated.
