Our wind machine hasn’t slowed down much for April beginnings but it will soon. This week it’s going to bring both wind and much needed rain for our area. The spawn is pretty much over and we will be going into a short transition time before the hungry bass will be out on prowl hungry and aggressive. Moving baits such as topwater, lipless crankbaits and suspending jerkbaits should get you bites. This year I’m going to be spending more time on the water with my fly rod in hand. The end of April is when the shad start their spawn and the bass will be schooling up on the bait pods feasting on them as the water starts hitting the 80 degree mark our area waters will begin the bluegill spawning activity. Keep a lighter rod/reel rig ready and either a Beetle Spin or small crankbait tied on for some panfish fun. Remember where you find the bluegill there is always a bass close by that is waiting to pick off a fish or two which will give that light tackle a good fight.
