Good morning all you Sebastian Inlet fans, I hope you all had a great weekend! Don’t have much to report, thanks to the tropical storm Ismelda that is churning out in the Atlantic off our coast. The north jetty was closed this past Saturday and grates removed so they wouldn’t get blown out again with the upcoming predicted large 9-11 ft swells. The park was also closed for the weekend by the Florida Park Service in Tallahassee due to the posted tropical storm watches and warnings that were issued for our area, which have since been canceled. As of this writing the park has REOPENED, but the north jetty will remain closed until the large swell threat has gone a way. The surf report that I monitor is showing the waves at 9-11 ft up through Friday, so don’t expect the jetty to open before then.
Also, with the big swell expect the water to become pretty dirty and silted up. Before all this, last week there was a pretty good snook and redfish bite on the north jetty, incoming tide on shrimp, mullet and majorra, plus the spanish mackerel and lookdowns were biting pretty good as well. The south side was a bit slower due to the dirty water, but some snook and reds were caught on the incoming on pigfish, pinfish and mullet.
That’s all I have for this week. Everybody stay safe, and be well.. Oh, the inlet camera is not functioning at the moment, I have sent them a message about it, and they have reached out to the camera team to get the issue taken care of.
