The New Smyrna Beach and mosquito Lagoon area has been in much need of some rain and it seems that it has arrived. With the recent rains it has really triggered a solid trout bite this past week with double digit days. The red fish and snook are still plentiful both in the backwaters of New Smyrna Beach and also in the shallows of Mosquito Lagoon. Both live bait and artificials have been working well. Using plugs early then switching to soft plastics and spoons has been creating a steady bite where as live bait like pinfish and mullet has been almost guarantee bite. It looks as though we will continue a rain pattern moving into the holiday weekend which will only secure the continued bite. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Fourth of July!
