big black drum

The weather has been nothing short of sucky for the past three weeks, but through perseverance and determination we have been finding our customers something to pull on.

Lagoon water temperatures are in the low 60’s right now and this means black drum become one of our primary targets. We like to rig a live shrimp on a 1/8 ounce Saltwater Assassin Boodah jig head or a R&R tackle 1/16 ounce yellowtail hook for these fish. Even though these “jigs” seem fairly light in weight, they are big on performance due to the stout hooks both of these companies use in their products. Pitch your shrimp under an overhanging mangrove branch and hang on for the ride! Small speckled trout, small redfish, and the occasional snook or baby tarpon can also be landed while fishing this pattern.

Captain Justin and I have a surprising number of days open throughout this month, so give us a call at 321-505-8217 and let’s go catch your next memory!
