American Shad Fishing on the St Johns River

It’s a cold post-frontal January morning in east Central Florida. While launching my skiff in predawn darkness I can barely see the end my trailer as a heavy fog bank has settled in. Luckily, I know this part of the Saint Johns River like the back of my hand, so finding my intended fishing spot in zero visibility goes according to plan. Heavy fog of this nature is uncommon on the Saint John River basin, requiring a precise mixture of warm river water, cold winter air and dead calm conditions to occur.

My Tooth Hurts…

Oh, such a bold statement because let's face it, going to the dentist is typically something most people avoid as long as possible. I know I did until recently. I think part of the problem was I didn’t know anyone I trusted that I felt would do a good job. If I was going to choose a dentist it really was a shot it the dark, just picking someone randomly.

Fun Day Fishing

One of the things I enjoy most about publishing Spacefish is that it provides opportunities to meet new people that share my passion for fishing. Such an opportunity led to my friendship with Alan Ryland, with whom I just had the pleasure to go fishing with at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge in Titusville.

Get Clammy, Get Fishy

When was the last time you had a fellow fisherman introduce you to a new product that actually worked? Think about it for a minute — when was the last time someone said “hey, put this on your hook and I bet you will catch a fish” and it actually produced for you? Almost never, right? Well, I just had that “once in a blue moon” occurrence, and boy was I impressed.
