North IRL
Went fishing in the north end in a cove famous for orange groves 175 years ago. The brown algae is back, but I still caught some nice trout and a red. Then thunderstorms and a cyclone came through.

Loud guitars and big fish in shallow water is what I like.

I put in on Tuesday in Grant and shot across to some islands to get out of the wind. I picked up a trout right away along some mangrove shoreline. a few minutes later, I […]
Fished my neighborhood in the central IRL on Monday. Beautiful day, decent water clarity. Because of SW winds, I fished the west shore. Saw some nice sized trout around a mangrove island but they weren’t […]
I fished Tuesday instead of Monday because of more manageable winds. Still a good breeze out of the southwest, but I hit some spots on the western shore north of Pineda Causeway near two canals. […]
PSJ used to be my favorite go to fishing spot. The grass flats on the east shore were always a sure thing for trout and big reds. Hard hit by the algae blooms, the sea grass is all gone, replaced by the broad leaf algae weed. Bait and fish were pretty sparse today. I did hook a good red on the east shore in a cove with some baitfish. Caught a big sail cat by the bridge. Then a pod of dolphin started stalking me. Because of the manatee zones, I couldn’t get away from them. Caught a silver trout that just was a dolphin snack. Called it a day. Stupid manatee zones make it so you can’t get away from them.. This area used to be awesome fishing. Now, meh.
Fished a couple of days (Wed & Mon) in the central IRL just north of Pineda causeway. Very few trailers at the ramp, so distancing was no problem. The water really super clear due and […]
Put in at the Sebastian public ramp.. Fished south in the river. Threw some top waters at Turtle Pen, nothing doing there. Fished the mangrove islands on Spratt (east branch of the river). Picked up […]
Beautiful Wednesday morning on the Indian River. Launched at Pineda kind of late. Some seniors told me “too bad, the bite stopped a 1/2 hour ago.” Scooted across the the east shore and started with some of my favorite docks.
Fished north around Dragon Point and the west shoreline around Mathers Bridge. Picked up a trout and a Mangrove snapper, but otherwise pretty slow. Lots of dolphin around, shadowing me. Sure didn’t help.
