    Find Deeper, Cooler Water

    May 24, 2021

It’s been getting hot on the Harris Chain of Lakes, but I’ve been having success with fishing deeper, cooler water in the lakes near submerged vegetation. Ripping chatterbait through, in, and around that has been the ticket. Another bait to try out is the hollow body frog. You can fish in and around heavy matted vegetation and stop it near holes in the area; and most of the time will be rewarded with a famous whack when one explodes on it. You can also fish soft plastics and really do well when you slow down with a speed worm or a creature style pitched it heavy cover.

      Freshwater Spawn in Full Swing!

      February 22, 2021

Spawning behavior is definitely in full swing! Largemouth bass and crappie are heading to shallow hard bottom areas to reproduce. Now is a great time to get outdoors and cast around. Various soft plastics tricks work; senko and fluke style are my favorites. Anything in a watermelon red, junebug or silver are a necessity. You can fish these baits in many ways so it is good to experiment. Chatterbaits are another hot bait to have tied on, so try casting here around, too. High percentage areas that I target are isolated lilly pad clusters, reeds and coves.

        Spawning Frenzy on Harris Chain

        January 27, 2021

It’s a spawning frenzy on the Harris Chain of Lakes right now! Expect this warming trend to have bass doing their thing in areas with hard bottom along canals and other locations. You can sight fish big bass on beds, too. Remember, they can be frustrating at times to catch. Soft plastic jerk baits, senkos and trick worms are a big player in putting bass in the boat. Try colors such as watermelon red, june bug and, lastly, something in a pearl white color.
