Only one day out this past week. I was able to hit Headwaters on Thursday, the coldest morning of the week. Winds were 10-15 out of the north and air temps were 45. It was a “Whitecap and Snowpants” morning to say the least. We headed to an area from the prior week. Basically a pre-spawn kinda staging zone. I started off throwing a Yo Zuri Rattlin Vibe in the chrome/blue with orange belly. Within 10 minutes I hooked up to the biggest bass of the day but when it was close to the boat she came out of the water and spit out my lure. Within 10 more cast another hookup. My friend had no bites at this time. After catching 5 bass in less than 20 minutes my friend still with zero he finally cried Uncle and made a change of baits. He didn’t have what I was throwing so I cut mine off and gave it to him to use. It didn’t take long for him to finally get his first fish. I tied on another color but the chrome/blue was the special of the day.
By 1pm the winds died down and so did our bite. The key areas to fish right now are anywhere you have deep water with shallower water close by. Also, sparse hydrilla is great to have in those spots as well. This next week’s forecast looks pretty windy so I’m going to take my boat in for work to be done on it. The next full moon is in a couple of days away and just might be our first spawn of our year and will only get stronger as we bring in the new year.
