A look at what to expect from Space Coast core fisheries heading into the weekend…
Offshore:
Sea bass and triggerfish headlined a cooler full of great eats!
Kingfish are still being caught in decent numbers slow trolling both live and frozen baits.
There have been a few mahi and cobia mixed in as well. (Capt. Chris Cameron)
Nearshore:
Good times fishing the beach for tarpon, sharks, and jacks. We are catching them on live bait as well as top water and soft plastics (Capt. Glyn Austin)
Surf/Inlet:
Sebastian Inlet South jetty, the action has been on the incoming tide. Catch-and-release snook have been good on live mojarra. (Wayne “Snookman” Landry)
Lagoons:
The bull reds are on fire right now along Florida’s Space Coast.
Focus on deep drop-offs, bridge pilings, and inlet channels during moving water.
Look for large schools of mullet, menhaden, or pogies on the surface.
Early mornings and late evenings are prime, but nighttime fishing has produced some of the biggest fish around lighted docks and bridges.
Live mullet, pinfish, or large chunks of fresh crab are producing the most consistent hookups. (Capt. Alex Hughey)
Freshwater:
The artificial bite is rather good early in the morning. The live bait bite is just insane for my clients the past few months. We have been burning through 4 dozen baits the first hour of the day and 8-10 dozen before 9:30.
Top baits this week for me were Jackhammer chatterbaits, Bass Assassin Vapor Shad and the Mike Bucca Bull Shad 6” Bull Gill. (Capt. Kenny Hass)
