We finally had a great week of fishing thanks to the weeds moving out! Lots of summertime fish are cruising the beaches, including big whiting, black drum, snook, and tarpon. It has definitely been hot, that’s for sure!

As I mentioned last week, the tarpon have started rolling through, feeding on the schools of pogies. If you’re into kayak fishing off the beach, it would definitely be worth heading out early in the morning, cast-netting some baitfish, and slow trolling for those tarpon.

The other species have been biting well on frozen shrimp, clams, and mullet chunks. Rig them up on a pompano rig with orange or white floats and cast them out on either the incoming or outgoing tide. If you can catch a small croaker or whiting and send it back out as live bait, there’s a great chance you’ll hook into a snook! Just keep in mind that snook are currently catch-and-release only.

I’m glad the weeds have moved out—knock on wood—and we’ve had some beautiful fishing weather to go along with it. As always, tight lines!
