bass report

Merry Christmas, friends and fellow anglers!

The lake is up 20” over regulation and there is a lot of floating vegetation pretty much everywhere. The vegetation is blocking the S canal just south of the entrance to the North Lake.

Top baits this week for me has been Zman Jackhammers, Snagproof Poppin’ frogs, and the Mike Bucca Trick Shad 7”.

The Snagproof Poppin frog is fairly new and it works great. I’m fishing along reed edges, floating islands and edges of wind blown cuts. Black is my favorite color in this frog.

I’m fishing the half ounce green pumpkin and dirty white (has a gold blade) Jackhammers in areas with scattered hydrilla. I use a 4.5” Hogfarmer Spunk Shad in green pumpkin magic or Blizzard gizzard. Fishing these on flats with scattered hydrilla or along ditches with hydrilla edges.

The Mike Bucca Trick Shad in Gizzard Shad color is my go to bait for swimbaits. One of my customers Blake Maxwell fished this bait for the first time and boated two nice looking fish in less than 30 minute. Get on the Bullshad email mailing list so you can get the bait drop info. The only way to get the Trick Shad and Glides are go to a bait show that Bullshad attends or through the bait drops. The live bait bite is on fire. My team and I have boated 4 fish over 9lbs the past 8 days. The bigger fish are starting to show themselves a little more each week. I would expect a couple double digit fish to show themselves on this next full moon. Grass edges near deep water is the key. The bigger the shiner the bigger the fish. Lots of big females full of eggs are being caught right now.

Tight lines!
