Finally, I felt well enough to get back out onto the waters after contracting COVID. My first trip to Headwaters was a bust due to the fact both ramps were completely blocked up with floating islands from all the southerly winds we had. The next day was at Garcia. The fish are in a “Too-Hot-To-Eat” kinda of way. Only a couple small bass were caught. The water levels are way up and clean, too.
Saturday I fished the Lagoon. Out river system is in dire straits due to all the rain and run offs we have experienced. Some areas were heavy algae like looking too muddy and then again almost root beer in color. I started off in the open water area that has kept the rod bent and on my second cast hooked up to a nice River Donkey of a jack. We caught several more with the occasional show up of Bull Sharks that have set up resistance in the area this year.
On another note, the Stickmarsh and 3 Forks are filling back up from the draw down. I have heard the bite on both have been quite minimal. I think once the flow slows down the fish will be acclimated to the conditions and fishing will be getting fired up once again.
All in all it felt great to get back in the boat!
