This past week I mainly focused on night trips, and there was quite a variety of fish showing up. I caught some good snook, redfish, and even a tarpon. Oddly enough, though, I didn’t see very many speckled trout.

Night fishing has been fairly productive, but I’m not going to lie—it has been hot, humid, and buggy. It’s definitely not a leisure trip right now.

I focused primarily on artificial lures, throwing smaller 3 and 4 inch paddle tails. One night I switched to live bait and caught a pretty good tarpon on a hand sized pinfish. I hooked it with a 4/0 circle hook and free lined it just off the edge of the mangroves, allowing it to swim naturally.

I don’t expect much to change over the coming week. The weather looks like it will remain consistently hot, so we’ll see how things develop. Overall, it was a good week, and I expect the solid fishing to continue for a while.
