This week I only managed to get out a handful of times, but the overall trend is clear. There’s plenty of bait around and the fish are definitely feeding.
I had a couple solid snook hookups, but unfortunately couldn’t get any of them to the kayak. Even so, they’re active and in the mix, which is a good sign moving forward. On a more positive note, I did land a few quality trout this week. It’s been a while since I’ve seen that size consistently, so that’s encouraging and could mean things are starting to turn back on.
Most of the action has been coming from the usual areas. Shorelines, flats, and docks are all holding fish right now. As long as you’re around bait, you’ve got a good shot.
Lure wise, I’ve been throwing 3 to 4 inch paddle tails, artificial shrimp, and topwaters. The shrimp has been getting the most bites overall, but it’s also been attracting a lot of smaller fish. Because of that, I found myself sticking more with the paddle tail to try and weed through the smaller ones and target better quality fish.
Overall, it feels like things are building in the right direction. If the bait sticks around, the bite should only keep improving.
