The Shad spawn is happening, and the bass are aggressively hungry for the very early part of the day. If you are in an area where the feeding frenzy is going on it’s truly amazing fun to be had. I don’t think it makes any difference what you’re throwing because it gets eaten violently. Once the sun comes up it’s pretty much over and the fishing starts instead of catching. On my favorite little pond, the bass were eating better than the bluegill at first light as well but when the sun got higher in the sky the panfish came alive to keep the bite going.
Water temperatures are creeping close to the 90-degree mark and all things will change once this happens. Enjoy these times before it does.
