The mullet run has officially begun, water temperatures are comfortable, and the fishing has been pretty productive lately.

Mangrove shorelines, spoil islands, and docks have all been producing, and I’ve been seeing plenty of schools of mullet. Where there’s big schools of bait, the predators usually aren’t far behind.

I’ve been getting some good snook and redfish lately, with tarpon mixed in as well. There are still plenty of trout around, and there have also been plenty of sharks in the mix.

I’ve upped my paddle tail size lately, going from my usual 3 inch offerings to 4 and 5 inch paddle tails. I’ve also been throwing live pinfish and live mullet around areas where I’m seeing schools of bait. The bigger profile seems to be a good match with the larger bait showing up right now.

I’ve been mixing morning and evening trips, and both have been equally productive. The mornings have generally offered more favorable wind and rain conditions, while late afternoon/early evening storms can sometimes put a damper on plans for the evening.

All in all, it’s been a good week on the water, and with the mullet run getting underway, I expect the good fishing to continue.
