With the afternoon rains in our area it has kept the waters from hitting the 90 degree marks. Still it’s been an early start and an early finish whether fishing the freshwater or saltwater waters.
Headwaters is fishing well with good numbers of fish caught this past week. Throwing topwater lures in the more open water and a hollow body frog in the heavier hydrilla has been lots of fun for the first hour of the morning. If you are lucky and have overcast skies it gives you more time for this pattern.
Once the sun is up then switching to a soft plastic stick bait lightly weighted and concentrating on edges of grass next to deeper waters will produce more bites. Sometimes you feel the pick up but other times you must keep your eye on your line as it will start to slowly swim off from where you made your cast.
I was able to hit up the Lagoon for a day but this bite was slow. We managed several fat mangrove snapper and a respectable pompano. I didn’t see much for any kind of bait being worked anywhere we were and not one dolphin or birds either. Still a good week of rod bending in this heat.
