I’ve had a bunch of live bait trips lately but I do get finished up early at times and get to fish a little. Today, I asked my client if he’d like to go on an artificial trip when we got finished and he was thrilled to learn some new techniques. I figured out the artificial bite pretty quickly this afternoon. I’ve got a few artificial trips coming up so I wanted to make sure my fish were still where they should be located (they were).
We threw Andrew Mixon boneshakers in black and blue along with the gold blade with the shiner skirts I made. The trailer I had the best luck on my chatterbait was a Bass Assassin Vapor Shad (St John’s and Panhandle Moon). Let me tell you this — Panhandle moon is sexy in the water and works great as a trailer or as a jerkbait.
The bigger fish were in canals with scattered hydrilla along the edges. We had 4 over 5lbs in less than 2 hours and boated a total 12. I lost a “Grandma” right at the boat and had another one around 7lbs come off when I boat flipped her.
That’s what worked for us today and I hope this gives you a head start the next time you are out on the water. Tight lines folks!
