peacock bass

If you’re interested in fishing for peacock bass, call to book a trip!

We are still catching some great fish on artificial baits and live bait. Top baits for me this week were Zman Jackhammer half ounce, Mike Bucca BullGill, Mike Bucca 4×4 and 4×4 deep, Zoom Ole Monster worms and Senkos.

I’m fishing Senkos every where there is hydrilla edges. Wacky rigged with a 3/0 circle hook. We had some big fish on the Senko this week. A couple quality 7lbers ate the Green pumpkin 5.”

The Jackhammer put some big fish in the boat for me this week. I was using the Hogfarmer Spunk Shad as a trailer. (Jackhammer Gold Shiner and Hogfarmer Spunk Shad TN Magic). I am fishing these pretty quick in thicker grass and slowing it down when the grass is spars so it ticks the grass. Some days the fast retrieval was best other days a medium speed worked better.

Our big bait fish came on the BullGill and the Bull Shad Swimbaits 4×4 Deep. (Bone on the Gill and my 4×4 deep is a custom paint job by Jen Kravassi). I’m fishing these along grass edges. The 4×4 deep cranks down to around 6ft. The gill I’m slowly reeling them and getting them well under the surface. Seems like before 9am was the best times for big baits.

The Zoom Monster worm in Junebug with an 1/8oz weight fished in deep water such as the Pits, canals and ditches. Fish them very slow. They are eating them sitting still or picked up and dropped on the bottom.

I’m using a new live bait rig I came up with in deep water and getting some solid fish over 6lbs.

The artificial bite will be solid early and late the next few months. If you’d like to learn how to fish big baits a quick 4 hour early morning trip might be for you. I have a couple days open in July and about half of August open.

I will be doing a few peacock bass trips the next 3 months. We will fish live bait and artificial. If you are interested in a fishing trip of a lifetime call or text 772-494-7400.
