Snook season is here, and they have been chewing everywhere along the beaches! The water has been a tad bit dirty, which means you have to throw your baits out and give the fish a little time to find them. Mullet have started running early this year, and hopefully that means this year’s mullet run will be a giant one!
Snook have been eating live croakers and live finger mullet, and they have been destroying artificial paddle tails and Bomber lures. Lean toward a 5-inch paddle tail if you choose to go casting along the beach. Greenback JYG, Get Thumped, and NLBN brands have been flying off our shelves.
As for the other beach fish, they have been eating frozen shrimp and clams. Whiting and black drum have been prevalent. Use the standard pompano rig with white or orange floats and toss it out into the first trough. Don’t forget your Fishgum and Fishbites, though, because they have been eating those as well!
It’s an exciting time of year for us locals, so I’ll stop typing and get to fishing now!
As always, tight lines!
