Well, Snapper season went off decently and it’s over in the blink of an eye. I personally wish it wasn’t even a thing and they’d just keep it closed. To say it causes a mess and is dangerous is an understatement. Who cares if you can’t keep a red snapper. Did you know that there’s plenty of other fish in the ocean? You can go to the store to buy local caught red snapper and pay 10x less than the fuel you put in your boat… Anyways.
Bait is easy to get with just one throw, says Capt. Joe. The trick is getting in the port at 5 am when no other boats are running them over — or cruise ships. Meanwhile, it’s still been an absolute nightmare with the weeds. I truly hope they disappear soon so we can keep the bait clean for more than 10 seconds. This season has been a nightmare. Winds, weeds, cold water… I should’ve went into the T shirt printing business instead. ????
Reef and Pelican remain your “go to spots.” Here, we’ve been catching quite an assortment of fish lately, pretty much every species on the list. Bottom fishing has been hit or miss, but grouper and AJs are definitely around. Croakers and pins are making that work if you can get them chewing.
Good luck.
