Finally the home improvement job was finished on our house so I had some free time to get out this past Friday. We headed to Headwaters and put the boat in. The “S” canal was free of any blockage. I did notice that they had sprayed quite a bit since our last outing as all the main canal and pit areas had brown and dying vegetation floating. Not a good sign for those areas to fish for a while.

We headed to the NW area but found the water to be very dirty and only managed two fish so we moved on to other areas. We squeezed out 20 bass and none were bragging fish for size to say the least. Biggest bass was just under 4 pounds. Throwing a Texas Rigged “Stickbait” was the preferred lure but I managed to catch several throwing a Lipless Crankbait ( Yo Zuri 3DR-X ). The reason for the switch of lure choice was due to the fact that one of our fish spit up a small bream and I took advantage of this with a lure that looked very similar to the real thing.

Water temperatures were climbing into the higher 60’s but with this week’s weather we have ahead of us our week will most likely lower it once again. With the low temperatures and high winds in our forecast, I’ll probably sit this week out wetting my line. Hurry up Spring!!
