Some days the artificial bite is tough and some days it’s not so much. One day they eat the big baits really good and the very next day you will only get a couple. Today, for instance, they didn’t eat the really big baits but I managed to catch them on everything else. Bullshad Trick Shad, Zman Poppin Shad, Poppin Frog, 6”BullGill, 5” BullGill and my secret weapon bait for summer. It seems every time you think your dialed in you get the ole curve ball. I love the challenge so I’m always thinking and end up with 20 rods on my front deck. Welcome to the summer bite, folks!
The good news is when we fished conventional fishing was solid. The Bass Assassin RSB worms in Gooseberry, Redbug and Junebug has been my best plastic baits.
Mike Bucca makes the best swimbaits on the market period. His Bullshad Bull Shad Swimbaits in the 6” Gill swimmer and the 9” glides are always on my deck when fishing artificial baits. Once you get that first fish on big baits you will want to fish with only big baits. You’ll be shocked how many 2-3lb fish will try and eat the 9” baits. If there was only one color you could by for Headwaters it would be Bone.
Live bait is still producing great numbers and size is really good too.
